Following on from the release of their jangly and groove-esque single 'Cold Shoulder', Eora/Sydney-based garage-rock quartet Before the King have just revealed their impressive new EP 'All That You Know' – produced and mixed by Chloe Dadd (Polish Club, The Buoys, Andy Golledge) and mastered by Christian Wright (The National, Fontaines D.C., La Roux).
Taking cues from the likes of indie-rock luminaries The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys and The Vaccines, 'All That You Know' is a fuzz-laden and mesmerising collection of five endearing tracks that combine elements of garage rock and brit-pop, bursting with a myriad of melancholic charm. While the group wear their influences on their sleeve, the record also largely shines a light on their artistic development, as their creative prowess inimitably defines and projects into their ever-evolving sound.
Vocalist Dean Smusko describes the significance and motivation behind 'All That You Know':
"The EP symbolises a departure from our influences, as we define our own unique sound. It symbolises a step forward for us, and coincides with us beginning to make our mark as a serious band."
To celebrate the release, the band will set off on a regional headline tour, which includes performances in Ngambri/Canberra, Wiradjuri/Tumut, Mulubinba/Newcastle, Durkinjung/Terrigal and Eora/Sydney. This continues from having shared stages with the likes of Mel Blue, Thunder Fox, The Million and The Lazy Eyes, and selling out headline shows at hometown venues The Chippo Hotel and Waywards at The Bank Hotel. The group also organised and performed at Your Mates Down South, a sold-out fundraiser gig that raised over $3,000 for the NSW and QLD floods in early 2022.
Previous releases have been widely embraced by Apple Music, Backseat Mafia, Blunt Mag, Beat Magazine, Tone Deaf, Music Feeds, AAA Backstage, HEAVY Mag, GC Live, Australian Music Scene, Rawing In The Pit, Something You Said, Milky, LivewireAU, Scenestr, The Point Music News and Niche Music (JPN). The band have also seen radio support from triple j Unearthed, FBi, 2SER, PBS FM, 2XX FM, Radio Adelaide and Aussie Music Weekly.
Outside of the musical realm, the band have also had a burrito from Beach Burrito named after them and raised money for organisations like anti-slavery non-profit The Freedom Hub.
