Bombs Away Like You ft. Elle Vee Interview

Bombs Away are a musical duo like no other in the Australian music scene; their longstanding career has earned them two platinum records for Super Soaker and Party Bass, gold for Big Booty Bitches, ARIA nominations, countless ARIA club chart top 10s, a #1 on the US viral charts, and have reached over a billion people with their music and videos online. However, it is now that Bombs Away are set to take the biggest step in their career to date, with the release of the first single Like You feat. Elle Vee, from their forthcoming debut album Fragments due early next year.

Although becoming known for their unique blend of electro house, bounce, trap and hip hop, Like You is a glimpse into the future for Bombs Away, with all aspects of song-writing and production taking a further step towards a dance crossover hit, however, still maintaining the quintessential Bombs Away magic.

Sketch explains, 'Like You is a labor of love that has been a long time coming, we've included some familiar elements that will be recognisable to existing Bombs fans, but we've been working really hard to bring something that's been inspiring us lately to life."

Further to the success across their original works, Bombs Away have a reputation for delivering phenomenal productions across a range of projects, having remixed for the likes of Luciana, The Potbelleez, Krafty Kuts, Pitbull and Stanton Warriors. Renowned for witty remixes such as Damn Daniel, the duo continue to reach millions of fans across the globe. Now four years topping the regional inthemix DJ awards, Bombs Away were polled at #4 in the national awards just last year.

Like You feat. Elle Vee is out on Central Station Records in conjunction with Universal Music Australia.

Interview with Bombs Away

Question: Can you tell us about the new single Like You?

Sketch and Tommy Shades: For us this one has been a long time coming! We've been working on getting it ready all year and it's amazing to see it finally out in the world! It started life as a remix video actually, and then it took on a life of its own.

Question: Like You is a little different from your other music – why was it time for a change?

Sketch and Tommy Shades: It really felt like we have been lucky enough to really have the reach now to do some songs that we may not have released a few years ago. Production wise, it actually does share a lot of similar elements to previous tracks like 'Better Luck Next Time', but we were really able to step that up a notch this time!

Question: How did you come across Elle Vee?

Sketch and Tommy Shades: We had actually seen some of her previous work and were already fans, so when the opportunity arose to actually get some music through to her we jumped at it.

Question: What was it like working with Elle Vee in the studio?

Sketch and Tommy Shades: She's one of the hardest working people in the industry at the moment, extremely prolific and she was extremely talented and reliable, sometimes gelling with the vocalist and having the same work ethic can be a challenge when you're working to deadlines but she was so great to work with it came together perfectly.

Question: Are you able to give us an insight into Fragments?

Sketch and Tommy Shades: The album that this single is leading into, 'Fragments', really expands on the idea of finally being able to release a body of work as a whole piece of music. It has a few singles that will come out separately, we think 4 or 5, but its am amazing opportunity to put together an hour of music in a format designed to be listened right through, not so much a journey as an experience.

Question: What can you tell us about the upcoming tour dates?

Sketch and Tommy Shades: Haha we don't have the calendar here with us but we're really focusing on Australia first for this one, so we'll be at every club around the country over the period!

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Sketch and Tommy Shades: 'Move On Up' has been one of the most in depth songs to play so far when it comes to vocal range. 'Supersoaker' is always a party starter but I'm really looking forward to playing 'Like You' out live and hearing Elle's vocals shine!

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend the launch, who would it be?
Sketch and Tommy Shades: Russell Brand, we think it would escalate quickly!

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Sketch and Tommy Shades: They are such different animals that we would have to say both! Recording is such a technical thought out process that it makes time fly, but nothing compares to actually performing the songs and seeing people react and enjoy them in real life!

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Sketch and Tommy Shades: Right now there are so many Australians doing awesome stuff we have on loop, Some, Tom Budin , Neon Giants, Dash One, Blanke are probably right up there!

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Sketch and Tommy Shades: We don't think anyone would ever say no to Calvin Harris, but if it could be anyone ever, it's cliche, but Michael Jackson perhaps!
