Following on from their previous hit, 'Light Up The Airwaves', which ignited a spark at radio reaching #16 on the CountryTown Hot 50 airplay charts and holding a spot for 12 weeks, Bo'Ness today unveil their impressive follow up 'Still Young'.
Identical twins, Callum and Jackson McPartlane, craft uplifting Country Rock with a message. "Still Young is about purely living in the moment and not letting neither your past or future bother you," declare the boys. "Just living it up, savouring friends and family and doing everything while you can." The track is certainly reflective of the unbridled joy within its words. 'Still Young' immediately leaps out from the speakers – a cacophony of drums and guitars, colliding in rousing harmony.
Multiple Golden Guitar and ARIA Award winning Matt Fell (Troy Cassar-Daley, Shane Nicholson), alongside Nashville based ex-pat, Sam Hawksley (Ian Moss, Adam Brand), were responsible for the songs emboldened sound. The two revered instrumentalists/producers collaborated remotely with the Queensland based duo, "Sam Hawksley and Matt Fell went to work helping build those great guitar parts". While the brothers recorded their dulcet tones locally. "Compared to a couple of years ago our surroundings in the studio and out have changed, with the whole virus coming up we recorded everything by remote, across the world, from Brisbane to Nashville, Sydney to Tasmania."
The lyrics came to life during a writing session between Bo'Ness and their long-time friend Mike Carr. "We had always wanted to write both a fun song and do it with such a talent as Mike Carr, we have known him since we were babies," chirps Jackson. A true product of the COVID era, it began online. "We just zoomed Mike one random day and we had a few laughs, and eventually with a lot of Mike's help we got there," adds Callum.
If you're unfamiliar with the capers these two 18-year-olds have been on over the last few years….you really should be. Growing up in a musical family, they've been on stage since they could strum a chord. Now those stages include the Red Hot Summer Tour – a national tour (featuring Aussie rock giants like James Reyne, Jimmy Barnes and The Angels) on which Bo'Ness have been the opening act these last two years. They also competed on the small screen in 2020, making it to the Top 20 on The Voice Australia. Not only that, but they were named semi-finalists in the International Songwriting Competition the same year.
There's still plenty more on the horizon for the siblings. With a live show to complement their blazing Country Rock sound, they'll be no strangers to the road this year. In August they'll cross state lines for the Variety Bash, join Amber Lawrence at her Brisbane show in September, and can't wait to once again hop aboard the Red Hot Summer Tour. "This whole year has been a life changing experience; we have travelled on a tour bus for the last six months on the road and played over 20 shows to over 120,000 people in total."
Sometimes it's about more than music for these two. As outspoken victims of bullying, they're also proud ambassadors for Kind is Cool and Bullyzero. At only 18 years of age, these twin brothers are indeed 'Still Young'. Yet, from their commanding vocals and insightful words you could be easily fooled. There's nothing quite like sibling harmony and these boys are an excellent example – so good, Mornington Peninsula Magazine praised "you've got to hear them to believe it". Make no mistake, Bo'Ness are a force to be reckoned with.
