17-Year-Old singer/songwriter Bree Rusev from Newcastle returns with her second single, 'Drift' (released 16th October 2020). The layered vocals and minimalistic acoustic production present a moody, emotive listen in the indie-folk genre and has already received airplay on Triple J.
'Drift' is about the importance of being present in your own life. The track speaks on mindfulness and the ways that people can get lost in their own thoughts and feelings without realising and appreciating their surroundings and what is happening around them in the present. The track has a pop-folk sound, with storytelling lyrics. Bree's sound has been compared to that of Julia Stone and her style of music has been said to be similar to that of Ziggy Alberts, Jack Botts and Kyle Lionhart.
Bree's music influences include Ben Howard, James Bay, Bon Iver, Angus and Julia Stone and Ziggy Alberts.
Drift expands on the sounds and success of Bree's debut single, 'Coastline' (released June 2020), inspired by Bree's love of the ocean, which also received airplay from Triple J and community radio nation-wide and reached positions in the top 10 on Triple J Unearthed charts for multiple weeks.
Bree picked up the guitar for the first time at age 14 and started performing and song-writing months later, with her first track being written within just a few months. Doing the rounds at local venues and functions, Bree has developed a confidence, unique sound and lyrical maturity way beyond her years.
