Forget Picasso, Monet, and Warhol – the best kind of art is the kind you can eat! This May, the world's leading edible cake artists and decorators are heading to Brisbane to show off their talents and compete in arguably the greatest competition there is – the 2020 International Cake Show Australia!
The 2020 International Cake Show Australia (ICSA) will be held at Brisbane Showgrounds Exhibition Building in Bowen Hills from Friday 15th May to Sunday 17th May and EARLY BIRD TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW!
Thousands of edible artists, cake decorators, cake bosses, professional pastry chefs, bakers, chocolatiers, home hobbyist decorators and food personalities from across the globe will converge on Brisbane to showcase their skills in multiple categories across the three days, with the general public invited to view and take part in a full program of masterclasses, activations, entertainment and more.
Don't miss the opportunity to see Australia's own sweet assassin in the flesh – Adriano Zumbo! He will be joined by incredible sugar superstars including all ten of the Zumbo's Just Desserts competitors and past competitors from The Great Australian Bake Off and as well as international names like the UK's Extreme Cake Maker Rosie Dummer!
A highlight will be a two-day, live cake-off challenge with Team Australia vs Team International on the main stage. This fiercely competitive contest features six of the world's most famous cake artists including Margie Carter (the 3D Cake Queen of Australia), Dorothy Klerck (South Africa), Molly Robbins (UK), Emma Jayne (UK), Raewyn Read (Sydney) and Queensland's own Trina Thomson. The theme for this year's competition is "The Olympic Spirit" to celebrate the 2020 Olympic Games to held in Tokyo in July.
International Cake Show Australia CEO, Joan McDermott said the event was set to become a new cultural tourism attraction for Australia, a brilliant cross between food, design, colour and competition.
"The International Cake Show Australia is open to the public and is all about creating magic, defying possibilities and breaking boundaries. For the millions who watch Cake Boss and follow the hundreds of thousands of edible artists on social media, this event is the penultimate experience, and to have it staged here in Brisbane as the national showpiece is certainly a coup for the city," she said.
And the sweetest news of all? Anyone can enter! Whilst there are a few professionals-only categories, most of the competition categories are open to the public. There are competition categories for beginners through to masters level.
International Cake Show Australia will be hosting the "Ultimate Australian Cake Decorating Competition and on the Saturday night of the show, the Australasian Cake Oscar Awards to celebrate Australasia's very best. Nominations are NOW OPEN for all categories including the Haute Couture Wedding Cake Designer of the Year Award.
In addition to the spectacular competition and general public programs, there is an exhibition and pop up shops where associated food and product manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, food and product service agents and retailers will display the very latest cake decorating tools, equipment, techniques and all that is sweet.
International Cake Show Australia is hosted by the Australian Cake Artists and Decorators Association (ACADA).
