Superstar and six-time GRAMMY® winner Carrie Underwood appeared on NBC's Today show Sunday morning where she revealed exclusively that she'll release her first collection of hits, titled Greatest Hits: Decade #1, set for release on December 5th through Sony Music Entertainment Australia. With a final track listing to be announced, the album will draw from Underwood's 18 #1 singles to date, while also featuring new material, kicked off by the first single, -Something in the Water,' set for digital release today, Monday September 29.
For Underwood, the album is not only a career milestone, but also a perfect way to be able to share some new songs with fans in advance of her next full studio album. She says, 'I can't believe it's been a decade since I auditioned for American Idol. Looking back at the songs I've released over the years lets me relive my amazing journey. Even better I get to include new music for the fans!"
Produced by longtime Underwood collaborator Mark Bright, and written by Underwood, Chris DeStefano, and Brett James, -Something in the Water' is a song that Carrie says was exciting even as they were writing it, and one that she hopes will touch listeners in the same way that it affects her.
'-Something in the Water' is so inspirational," Carrie says. 'It's joyous! I can't help but smile when I hear it. I hope it has the same effect on everyone who listens to it."
Carrie Underwood emerged from the promise of her 2005 American Idol win to become a true multi-format, multi-media superstar, spanning achievements in music, television, and film, where the six-time GRAMMY® Award winner has amassed more than 95 major honors, sold more than 64 million records worldwide, and recorded 18 #1 singles, nine of which she co-wrote. The first female artist to be twice named the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year, Underwood was recognized as Pollstar's Top Female Country Touring Artist for each of her headlining tours, in 2008, 2010, and 2012. Her four albums, Some Hearts, Carnival Ride, Play On, and Blown Away – each certified multi-Platinum or Platinum, and each an American Music Awards winner as Country Album of the Year – tallied 38 weeks at #1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart with songs that have now been streamed more than 800 million times worldwide. Last year, she starred as Maria von Trapp in NBC's three-hour holiday blockbuster, the Emmy®-winning The Sound of Music Live!, whose airings attracted 44 million viewers. A proud member of the Grand Ole Opry since 2008, Underwood is now in her second season as the musical voice of primetime television's #1 program, Sunday Night Football, and in November will return for the seventh consecutive year as co-host of the CMA Awards, where she is a three-time nominee this year. On December 9, Underwood will release Greatest Hits: Decade #1, her first hits collection, which also features her new single, 'Something in the Water."
