Cassidy Rae Gaiter: Definitely country pop! I'm really drawn to songs with country lyrics set to pop production, so that's what I wanted to create with Boy Like That!
Question: Can you tell us about Boy Like That?
Cassidy Rae Gaiter: Boy Like That is my newest single; it's a fun, catchy, country pop, girl power song!
Question: What inspired the track?
Cassidy Rae Gaiter: Well I definitely had someone in mind when I was writing it (laughs) but basically I was just in a writing session with three of my friends in Nashville and one of the girls said, "oh don't you just hate boys like that?" and that was it, the song just wrote itself from there! We all started brainstorming all the things certain boys do that we don't like, turns out it's a lot of things.
Question: What has inspired you to relocate to Nashville?
Cassidy Rae Gaiter: It's been a lifelong dream of mine and I'm finally in a place in my life that I can try and make it happen! Nashville is the most inspiring city I have ever been and I just want nothing more than to be fully immersed in the lifestyle permanently.
Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Cassidy Rae Gaiter: They are both so much fun for different reasons, I love being able to get everything perfect in a studio and seeing a song transform from a little voice memo on my phone to a fully-fledged track! But I grew up in music theatre, so the stage is my favourite place in the world, nothing can beat performing live!
Question: What motivates you most when writing music?
Cassidy Rae Gaiter: The fact that as songwriters we have the ability to turn our own life experiences and feelings into music, that other people can then listen and relate to is just the most magical thing for me and I think about it every single time I write! It's a huge motivation knowing that by writing about what I'm going through, I can maybe inspire or help someone else going through similar things.
Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?
Cassidy Rae Gaiter: I am loving Lennon Stella and Dove Cameron, at the moment. I'm really drawn to their style of pop, but of course Kelsea Ballerini and Taylor Swift are huge inspirations to me so I will always blast their music whenever I can. I also can't stop listening to SIX The Musical, I just saw it in Sydney a few weeks ago and I'm obsessed!
Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Cassidy Rae Gaiter: Shania Twain was my first real inspiration and she will always be the og. My idol is Laura Bell Bundy, and she really helped me accept that you can have multiple dreams (i.e country music and music theatre) and it's okay to try and follow all of them.
Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Cassidy Rae Gaiter: Laura Bell, for sure but I would also love to write with Kelsea Ballerini.
Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?
Cassidy Rae Gaiter: Finding genuine people that want to help and believe in you as much as you believe in yourself.
Question: What's a typical day like?
Cassidy Rae Gaiter: I only have a few days left in Australia so my days are pretty crazy at the moment.
They're crammed with interviews promoting Boy Like That, lots of catching up with friends and family and of course packing (although I am trying to put that off for as long as possible)!
Question: What's next, for you?
Cassidy Rae Gaiter: Nashville, which is insane and still doesn't feel real but basically just: write, sing, repeat.
