Question: What originally ignited your passion in music?
Chango Phat: Music has always been a big part of my life. It's the different styles of music that gave me a platform to escape into another state of mind.
Question: How would you describe your style, in five words?
Chango Phat: Party Rocking, Head Nodding, Soothing.
Question: How long have you been DJing for?
Chango Phat: A bit over 10 years.
Question: Do you have a particular artist whose music you enjoy mixing, most?
Chango Phat: I don't really have a particular artist at the moment. There are so many styles of music/artists nowadays that anything can be mixed together. This is why I love Red Bull Thre3Style as it gives djs the opportunity to play a set without limitations.
Question: What inspires you when you're performing a set?
Chango Phat: Knowing that I am playing a set that gives people that feeling - "Damnnnnnnnnnnn... How does he even come up with this shit?".
Question: What are you looking forward to most about the Red Bull Thre3Style Australian DJ Championships?
Chango Phat: I can't wait to see what the other competitors bring to the table. With the DJ technology being so ever-changing and accessible nowadays - it's always interesting to see how other djs use the same technology in different ways.
Question: What three genres of music will you play during your 15 minutes set?
Chango Phat: RnB, Hip-Hop and Trap.
Question: What can we expect from your set at the Red Bull Thre3Style Australian DJ Championships?
Chango Phat: I'm looking forward to giving the audience a set to remember. Since the Red Bull Thre3Style Australian DJ Championships are held in my hometown Melbourne, it is definitely a great opportunity to showcase what DJ Chango Phat is all about.
Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a DJ?
Chango Phat: Favourite part would have to be learning about all types of music art forms. So far it has been a great journey to see how the culture of DJing itself has evolved with today's technology and it would be interesting to see where it is headed from here.
Question: What's next, for you?
Chango Phat: Positive things are on the cards leading on from Thre3Style - I'm looking forward to doing more collaborations with other DJs and artists.
Question: How did you come up with the name, Chango Phat?
Chango Phat: I've always been called by my last name, Chan and also Channy.
Back in the day I was at a DJ scratch practice session with an old crew and one of the fellas kept yelling 'go go go Chan" to keep scratching and then blurted out Chango and it sounded really catchy.
So since that day that name Chango stayed with me and I always felt that my style of DJing was phat. So I put both together and landed with Chango Phat.
