David Harris grew up near the beach at Deey Why (Sydney). He spent most of his childhood on Dee Why beach.

After high school David became a school teacher, first at primary and then at secondary schools. He taught at Macquarie University for a while and then decided to work for a book publishing company as a children's book editor. For three years he lived in London running book publishing company. David Harris published Australia's best every selling series, Emily Rodda's Deltora Quest.

When he returned to Australia David Harris decide to live in Manly because he loves being near the water - and he has lived there ever since. These days he spends his time writing, taking photos, reading and going to plays, concerts and movies - and to the beach of course.
