Chutney Adelaide

Isolation certainly hasn't slowed down these boys. Pioneers of condiment rock, Chutney, are serving up all things sugar and spice with their debut self-titled EP. Their latest single Adelaide a clear sign they've the goods to impress.

 

Recorded at Lovestreet Studios with longtime collaborator Scotty French behind the boards and with tracks mastered by Grammy-nominated Brian Lucey (Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys), the EP combines engaging storytelling through backdrops reminiscent of the atmospheric guitar rock of the noughties, resulting in five tracks that wouldn't sound out of place within the catalog of bands such as Arctic Monkeys, Catfish & The Bottlemen and Ocean Alley, yet still retaining the distinctive Chutney sound, which Declan Byrne of Triple J's Home and Hosed has referred to as "Sleepy" and "Coastal". This genuine transmission of vibe continues to resonate with their loyal contingent of fans both home and abroad.

 

Focus single Adelaide displays the quartet's softer side. Exploring the wistfulness and uncertainty that follows a relationship, the track gradually builds on a dreamy bed of the contained second verse into an emotive and expansive final outro. The delivery of sentiment, unhurried yet purposeful, draws you in and sets you up for ecstasy.

 

Formed in late 2019 from separate local bands Augusta, Hot Coffee & the Stingin' Rogers, these homegrown Gold Coast boys have made an immediate impact within the live scene of their city, and their upcoming EP serves as a snapshot in time of the lives these twenty-somethings lead from their hometown. The EP consists of five tracks displaying lyricist Matt Hansford's musings upon topics such as lost love and the Gold Coast nightlife whilst allowing the band's ability to craft memorable and diverse compositions. Stand alone single Gone Time was received positively with The AU Review "crushing on this tune" and Blank GC declaring that "they're anything but boring".

 
With pandemic requirements seemingly lifting from July/ August, the band already has shows booked at hometown favourites Elsewhere and Vinnie's Dive Bar and plans to leave this period of social isolation in the distant past, with many more live shows in support of the EP to follow for the remainder of the year.
