After being announced as an addition to the huge Listen Out line up earlier this week, today 19-year-old rapper, vocalist and musician Col3trane announces his debut Australian headline shows for late September. Having recently finished touring the U.K. with Dua Lipa, the two intimate performances in Melbourne (25 September) and Sydney (26 September) will be on sale from Monday 20 August.
Showcased with his live band on the tour will be his second mixtape, BOOT which is out today via TaP/Geffen Records. The mixtape contains singles Fear & Loathing and 'Britney' which were released as a double video last week and were directed by Oscar Hudson (Young Thug, Radiohead), and new single 'Tyler' which runs with a bouncing beat and a nuanced melody, it's a fresh sound that will stay in your head long after you finish listening.
Says Col3trane "'BOOT stands for Breathing Out Of Time. Breath is one of the few things in life which is universal, that everyone can feel and relate to. Breathing out of time is talking about situations where your relationships with people change for better or for worse, and you feel like you've fallen away from the universal thing that connects everyone. Talking about heavy anxiety and stress... and how people decide to deal with that.'
BOOT features production from Rogét Chahayed (Solange, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott), DJDS (Kanye, Charlotte Day Lewis) Nicky Davey (The Internet) and Cadenza (Jorja Smith), and builds on Col3trane's blueprint of emotionally intelligent lyricism, future-facing beats and genre elasticity.
He collected accolades in 2017 for his debut 'Tsarina' mixtape which included single 'Penelope', as well as for his feature on SG Lewis' break out single 'Smart Aleck Kill'. Born to American and Egyptian parents, Col3trane's musical upbringing in the UK was cross-cultural. Developing an instinct for rhythm and melody, Col3trane drew affiliations to various UK rap and hip-hop collectives across the UK and met collaborators including J Moon and Lauren Ralph, producers of his debut singles and mixtape. His appetite for collaborations also led him to feature on singles for rising UK star Ebenezer and aforementioned London producer SG Lewis, and has won fans as diverse as Jorja Smith and Dua Lipa. He now splits his time between London and Los Angeles.
