In an Australian supermarket first, Coles has announced that 100% of Coles Brand food and drink products are now free from added Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) and artificial colours.

As part of their commitment to quality products that cost less, Coles is leading the way with the decision to remove artificial colours and added MSG from all Coles Brand food and drink products. All Coles Brand products have undergone rigorous testing to ensure customers can continue to enjoy great tasting products without the additives.

Coles' pledge to remove artificial colours and added MSG from their products is in line with customer research showing that Australians have concerns regarding food additives:
91% of Australians are worried about consuming products with artificial colours and added MSG
76% of Australians avoid consuming products with artificial colours and added MSG
1 in 3 believe that their children have had a reaction to artificial colours

With health and wellbeing among the top priorities for customers, Coles has acted to remove artificial colours and added MSG across its entire Coles Brand food and drink range.

Jackie Healing, Quality Manager for Coles said: "Coles is proud to become the first Australian retailer to implement the removal of added MSG from our Coles Brand food and drink products. We have also removed all artificial colours.

We have listened to our customers' concerns that they would prefer us not to use additives in our products and following five years of extensive product development, we are now able to ensure 100% of Coles Brand food and drink products are free of artificial colour and added MSG. We have tested all the new recipes with our customers who tell us they are very happy with the changes we've made.

Our customers are clearly concerned by food additives and the effect they believe they have on their health. A significant number have indicated that they or their children have experienced reactions to artificial colours and MSG", said Jackie.

Coles' commitment to 100% no artificial colours and added MSG comes a year after Coles' 'no added hormones' announcement, which saw Coles pledge 100% of beef stocked in stores across Australia will be free from added hormones. As a result of removing added hormones beef sales are up almost 20 per cent.

Coles Brand food and drinks products now free from artificial colours and added MSG include confectionery, bakery, dairy, savoury snacks, marinades as well as many other food groups.

Review: I have been slightly bias and always shopped at Coles as I started working there as a check-out-chick whilst studying, many years ago, and now that Coles have announced that all Coles brand food and drinks are free from MSG and artificial colours I have another reason to only shop at Coles (and because I love the catchy jingle "down down, prices are down").

I have always been careful with what I eat and serve my friends and family whilst still looking for products that are reasonably priced. Choosing Coles branded products is a must to save my cash, health and wellbeing whilst still creating full-flavoured and delicious meals.

With the Coles brand Mexican range I created a selection of my favourite Mexican dishes such as cheesy nachos, beef tacos, chicken burritos, bean quesadillas and mixed meat fajitas!

The taco and burrito seasoning packets are both exceptionally full of flavour and have the right spice balance, they're not too spicy yet not shallow in flavour and create an amazing aroma whilst coating the meat and vegetables (I add corn and grated carrot and zucchini to my meat fillings) perfectly.

The Coles Burrito Tortilla pack is fantastic because not only are they delicious (not rubbery and don't stick to the top of your mouth) they are the ideal thickness for all Mexican dishes especially quesadilla and fajitas!

The Coles Taco Shells are very crisp and stable - they don't break when being heated or filled (even to the brim). Whilst both the Coles Taco Dinner Kit and the Coles Burrito Dinner Kit provide the ability to create a quick, delicious and easy dinner on a busy weeknight!

I suggest keeping numerous packets of the Coles Corn chips in the cupboard for unexpected events and weekend lunches; the corn chips are crunchy even after being smothered in salsa and cheese! The Coles Salsa is exceptionally good, I actually only got to taste a small bit of the salsa because the jar had been devoured by my partner before I could say el almuerzo se sirve (lunch is served).

The tin of Coles Diced Tomatoes comes in handy for all meals not only Mexican but Italian too. I have always had a couple of Coles Diced Tomatoes in the pantry, they're a staple product.

The Coles brand Mexican range tastes amazing and no different (actually even better) than the full priced range I previously purchased. I suggest you give the range a try, I can guarantee you won't go back to the full priced collection after trying the Coles brand Mexican range.
