Columbus Full Heart

Columbus Full Heart

Columbus are today proud to announce their highly anticipated new EP 'Driving In The Dark', due out on Thursday 24th March 2022. This will be the band's first extended release since their acclaimed 2018 record 'A Hot Take On Heartbreak, and the first featuring their current lineup. Ushering in the EP announcement is the arrival of their new single 'Full Heart' - a heartwarming, summer-ready track about wanting to fall in love.

"Full Heart is a song about trying to find love in the dark," reveals frontman and guitarist Alex Moses. "You know how you feel, but you don't know where to look."

"The song was one of those songs that took years to write. I had the main chorus and was really excited to finish it, but ironically I didn't know where else it should go. The track went through 2-3 versions of different lyrics, I showed the band but ultimately it didn't make the cut for our recording sessions in 2020. I re-wrote the lyrics again in early 2021, and knew I'd found what I wanted to say."

Coming together to record the 'Driving In The Dark' EP in between Melbourne's lockdowns with Joel Quartermain (Fergus James, G Flip, Eskimo Joe), the three interstate best mates had only a few days together to rehearse and record their new material. Bassist Lauren Guerrera reveals the recording process "felt like a whirlwind - it was tense at times but I'm so proud of what we've done."

In addition to 'Full Heart', the five-track EP will feature previous singles 'Temporary Summer' and 'Pain Is A Mirror', alongside two all new tracks 'Care About You' and 'The Holidays'.

Reflecting on the EP, Moses says "With each release we're adding to the fire what Columbus means to us. This EP represents where we're at right now. It's been a wild time driving in the dark, but I think we've finally arrived."

The releases follow what has been a rollercoaster past couple of years for the trio. Ringing in 2020 with a full rotation addition to triple j for their single 'Can't Hide From What Hurts' and their third appearance at UNIFY Festival, the independent return of Columbus was a triumphant one. Follow up singles 'Out Of Time' and 'Pain Is A Mirror' debuted to fans via triple j's Good Nights and Home & Hosed, and saw the band land a national support with Sly Withers on their sold out tour in May 2021.

As an end to an incredibly busy year, Columbus were billed to support Stand Atlantic on tour across the country, however following multiple rescheduled dates due to the evolving public health crisis, the tour was cancelled. In October, their single 'Temporary Summer' arrived as a bright and welcome alternative end to 2021 for Columbus, serving as the perfect soundtrack as the weather warmed and the New Year rolled closer. The release clocked airplay on triple j and additions to Spotify's All New Rock and Local Noise playlist, as well as features with Beat Magazine, The Music, Ticketmaster, The Guardian, NME and more. New single 'Full Heart' has followed as another chapter of an exciting time for Columbus, with the promise of more to come from the trio throughout 2022.

Columbus are Alex Moses (guitar / lead vocals), Lauren Guerrera (bass / vocals), and Daniel Seymour (drums).
