Kate is the curator and head artist of an upcoming charity exhibition, Creature Collab – which will see more than 10 well-known artists, including fashion illustrator Aaron Favaloro, street artists Allie Webb, Mulga and Saxon Duke, Archibald prize finalist Kirsty Neilson, Ariel Sexton-Shaw (Love Ariel) and more - collaborate on artworks with Kate. Iconic Australian artist Ken Done is also involved in the exhibition – donating a limited-edition framed print.
The sole purpose of the exhibition is to raise funds for the remote village of Soibada in Timor-Leste, where Kate will be travelling to in October to assist, including at the local orphanage. There, the 32-year-old will teach the children sport, help females learn to bead, and assist in the construction of a classroom for a high school. She will be travelling to Timor-Leste with the charity organisation Pittwater Friends of Soibada (pittwaterfriendsofsoibada.org.au)
All the money raised from the sales of the exhibited pieces will go directly to helping the village, including sporting goods, female hygiene products, medication not available in Soibada.
With most of the artists being Kate's friends or artists she absolutely adores, she is thrilled that everyone jumped on board to help.
'A main motivator for me when creating art is imagining the piece bring a little happiness to someone even if just for a minute. Lending support to such a worthy group -Pittwater Friends of Soibada' was an easy decision and was happy to lend my support in any way I could," says Aaron Favaloro.
The works will be a drawing Kate has sketched up of an animal (a different creature for each artist) and the prominent creative will draw/paint/sketch around/on or over the work.
The exhibition will be held from 17-23 of September, with the VIP party on 21 September, at TAP Gallery, 259 Riley St, Surry Hills.
