Melbourne singer-songwriter Daniel Trakell has announced the October 6 release of his new single titled So Long – an emotive  ballad written during the final months of his Dad's battle with cancer.

Says Daniel, 'The song is about saying goodbye to a close friend, but after Dad died, it changed the meaning of the song for me.

'I usually write my lyrics kind of subconsciously, but I think what my dad was going through had a big effect on my creative process in this instance.

'I performed it at his funeral a couple of weeks ago, so it's become more sentimental to me now than when I was writing it."

So Long is the follow up single to Daniel's debut solo EP titled Paradise, which released earlier this year, with three of the four tracks receiving strong airplay support on Double J and Unearthed, with spins on 3RRR, RTR and ABC local stations in Victoria, including Melbourne and his hometown, Ballarat. Collectively, the EP has clocked up over 200,000 unique streams across all platforms, with the title track also being added to influential tastemaker Alex Rainbird's Indie/Fold/Pop playlist on YouTube, Relaxing Sunday Mornings which has close to 4million views. The second single on the EP was selected as a winner in Triple J Unearthed's NIDA competition which saw his music video for All We Do given rotation airplay on ABC TV's rage.

It is one of eight new songs Daniel recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, produced by Joshua Barber (who also played drums), engineered and mixed by Stephen Mowat; with Adam Ollendorff on guitar and Adam Keefer on bass.
