DirtGirl Gumboot Boogie Tour

DirtGirl Gumboot Boogie Tour

What happens when you cross David Attenborough with P!nk? You get a person like noone else on this planet, what you get is dirtgirl!

Much more than a fictional reality, she is an unreal pop star with a very real heart and a hyperreal tribe of millions that she reaches everyday. Seen on TV in 128 countries around the world, she is Australia's best kept secret and a hero to families across the nation. In the last few weeks alone, she has broadcast at sunrise from Uluru, tracked waste on the beaches of the Great Barrier Reef, planted fruit trees in the desert and met with the Environment Minister in Canberra to discuss a national approach to recycling. She is walking the walk and talking the talk and all the while getting ready to release her joyous new single Changes (out September 21) and bubbly, positively charged, powerhouse album Gumboot Boogie, set for release on October 5. She's also confirmed a bunch of all-female band Spring shows to celebrate her new tunes, kicking off at Anzac Park on Thursday Island on September 25 before moving through ACT, NT, VIC, NSW and finishing up in Tasmania on November 16.

For 10 years, dirtgirl has connected with young children and families across her socials and through her shows Get Grubby TV and dirtgirlworld, inspiring and encouraging them to step outside and experience nature and sustainability in everyday life. Not only has she permeated the hearts and backyards of many the country over, this unique, positive-pop eco warrior has also been widely recognised by the industry, notching up a host of award nominations for Logies, ARIAS and even a BAFTA. dirtgirlworld recently won an AFI and has won over audiences and industry abroad too, with the values-filled, nature-connected, family friendly show airing on televisions across 128 countries and digitally consumed by millions of people weekly. dirtgirlworld also proudly took home one of less than 20 Emmy's that Australia boasts, after Gene Simmons presented the coveted award to the team for best digital program in the Children and Young People category in 2013.

Lead single Changes is thought provoking and real and is guaranteed to put a pep in your step. "One morning, I was weeding and thinking about how all things in nature change," dirtgirl explains, "caterpillars turn into butterflies, tiny seeds grow into huge trees. People struggle with change, but in nature, there's no struggle. And I thought about how free we could all feel if we just surrender to the power of change." Fittingly, the video for Changes came about in a very organic way – team dirtgirl met to talk through some ideas for the video but found themselves out for a walk when inspiration was lacking. "The golden hour hit and we thought you know what, this is what it's all about; the sun sets, day comes and goes, we do what we love and that's life. So we got out our cameras and shot some fun stuff in my paddock with our friends. We wanted to capture the essence of being outside in the day and the night. I really hope that the clip portrays how everything is connected and how mighty the power of change is."

Recorded in dirtgirlworld, mixed and produced in Melbourne by Cameron McKenzie (Mark Seymour, Horsehead) and mastered in New York to add some apple, the LP Gumboot Boogie is all about encouraging sustainability, peddling an intertwining theme that nature is fun – these boppy, entertaining pop songs all the while empowering the listener to go outside, get grubby and enjoy life. Most songs are the work of Hewey Eustace, co-director of dirtgirlworld (alongside Cate McQuillen), the guardian of dirtgirl pop. "This album is the birth of posi-pop - unashamedly hopeful music, a collection of anthems that plants the seeds of possibility and might just grow a generation that does things differently," boasts Eustace.

Excited to grow the dream and spread the positive dirtgirl messages on stages across Australia, McQuillen explains, "We support the community to develop positive attitudes and values by engaging them in guided learning experiences that link people, plants, creatures and the land, reinforcing sustainable life practices." Dirtgirl adds, "of course our tunes are super fun for little ones, but we've crafted my live shows for grown-up music lovers who happen to have kids now", as demonstrated by their spot on The Lost Lands stage alongside You Am I, The Teskey Brothers, Tim Finn, Didirri, Kate Miller-Heidke and other brilliant artists. "Our songs are for the whole family, and one thing that I think will surprise people is how much me and my girl band rock out! I mean, we have a lot of fun and the vibes are good, but this isn't fairy floss stuff; we seriously rock out!"

If you ask her, dirtgirl won't say she is a hero or a warrior. She identifies as a gardener; an earth dweller who loves singing as much as she loves planting trees, creating compost and going outside and getting grubby, and she lives by the mantra that little things make a big difference, but we happen to think she's a certified superstar that this planet cannot live without, and the newer generation's true leader of change.

New single Changes will be available on September 21 and the album Gumboot Boogie will be released on October 5.
