Interview with Farren Jones
Question: How would you describe Rise?
Farren Jones: Rise is an inspirational song, meaning to rise to a challenge, or to always strive towards reaching the best of one's abilities.
Question: How did it feel to have Rise commissioned by film producer Scott Didier to be the official theme song for 'Blinder'?
Farren Jones: It was the biggest high I've ever experienced next to the birth of my kids.
Question: Have you seen the film Blinder?
Farren Jones: I have only seen some rushes from the film, when I was composing the song and editing the film clip. It looks great and I'm looking forward to seeing the movie.
Question: Do you write your own songs? What's your inspiration?
Farren Jones: Yes I do write my own songs. Each song has it's own inspiration, everything from everyday life to inspirational movie scripts like Blinder.
Question: What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?
Farren Jones: I listen to a great variety of music - everything from Frank Sinatra through to Led Zeppelin. I definitely appreciate catchy melodies and honest lyrics.
Question: What's next? Tour/Album/Single?
Farren Jones: I am hoping to record an new album to follow up the success of Rise, and I can't wait to get out there and perform the new material in front of an audience. Keep an eye out for special in store appearances at selected JB HI FI outlets around the Rise release.
Question: Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?
Farren Jones: Last year, after not making the final round of X- Factor, I may have considered it. Only briefly, though! It is tough supporting a family being a full time musician, and the industry has been experiencing a few very challenging years while undergoing many changes. Despite that, music is my passion, and I'll never give it up.
Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Farren Jones: I love both, and each has a different type of high associated with it. I guess with a live show you get an instant reaction to your work, whereas sometimes the recording process can be somewhat clinical, depending on the project. Playing live has the same energy as when footy players get out there on the field and play a match. After Scott Didier saw me play a couple of shows, I think it was that same energy that inspired him to hire me to write the single Rise, for Blinder.
Question: What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Farren Jones: John Lennon, closely followed by Jeff Lynne of E.L.O, who composed and produced all his own albums.
Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?
Farren Jones: The biggest challenge has been to keep believing in my songs and music, despite numerous knock backs, and rejections. You just have to stay positive, no matter what you do in life.
Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?
Farren Jones: I'm always thankful that I can make a living from my passion. Music is always an adventure, going to different places and meeting amazing people.
Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Farren Jones: I would love to write with lots of artists. I guess as far as Australian artists go, it would be the Farriss brothers from INXS, Todd Hunter from Dragon or Steve Balby from Noiseworks.
Question: Do you have a website fans can visit?
Farren Jones: Yes, you can visit the official website at
