The school holidays are here again! Kick them off with free and unique family film experiences on the Big Screen at Fed Square.
Starting on Monday 3 April from 12pm is Disney's The BFG, (read Big Friendly Giant) rated PG, directed by one of Hollywood's biggest stars Steven Spielberg, based on the original novel by children's literary star-maker, Roald Dahl. The movie tells the story of young Sophie, and her encounters with the Giant, who introduces her to the wonders and dangers of Giant Country.
Families, children, film-lovers and passers-by are invited to relax into the comfy sling-back deckchairs, enjoy some FREE popcorn or head to Popstic to indulge in their incredible range of ice cream flavours.
Directly following The BFG, stay on for Kubo and the Two Strings: an action-adventure animation (rated PG). The star of the movie is a young boy – Kubo – who battles the Moon King, gods and monsters to save his familyand solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest Samurai Warrior the world has ever known. What a star you are, Kubo!
On Thursday 6 April, be prepared to be totally awestruck when Stargazing Live, in partnership with the ABC, hits The Square and Big Screen at Fed Square. Commencing at 7pm, the public can drive a Sphero Rover over the surface of Mars; use VR (virtual reality) and AR (augmented reality) headsets to simulate space and universe travel; view the moon and the stars through high-powered telescopes and enjoy mind-blowing science experiments before TV program Stargazing Live hits the Big Screen at 8.30pm.
Joining a cast of astronomers and scientists under the stars, Stargazing Live is a free community based event, hosted at Fed Square by science star Dr Karl and ABC presenter Grace Koh. A celebration of the final night of the three-night ABC/BBC co-production of Stargazing Live, the Big Screen will be beaming in presenters Professor Brian Cox and our own Julia Zemiro as they take star and space lovers on a journey through the universe.
Bring a picnic rug, get involved in the activities from 7pm and settle in for the Stargazing Live screening from 8.30pm. Food trucks, a Double J DJ Jacinta Parsons and guest presentations from leading Australian astronomers Dr Tanya Hill and Dr Katie Mack, will complete this night of star-gazing wonder. Visitors are also encouraged to come dressed as an alien, with prizes on offer for the most creative costume.
Dress up and dress warm as this night of stargazing adventure takes a journey to outer space……and beyond….!
