FERLA Voodoo

Melbourne synth-pop darlings, FERLA, share their new single 'Voodoo', courting post-breakup mania and the chase for libidinal good times. Set to feature on their debut album, out in early 2019, 'Voodoo' pulses with overblown drums and sex-positivity in a song dedicated to escapism as therapy.

"Voodoo was written at a time when I was going out and drinking heaps, sleeping maybe 5-6 hours each night, goofing around on tinder & socialising constantly because I couldn't stand being alone. It was self-abuse but it was also a really great time." says vocalist and songwriter Giuliano Ferla "I was also listening to Salt-N-Pepa a bunch and I loved how sex-positive and life-affirming they were. I loved them so much I stole one of their lines and used it. But they stole it from Cole Porter so that's how it is."

'Voodoo' follows the release of the upbeat sad-banger 'The Human Heart' which reached #4 on the Amrap metro chart and has been enjoying play on community radio across the country.

Recorded by Rohan Sforcina (Dune Rats, Oh Mercy, Gold Class) at Broadmeadows studio 400 Acres, FERLA's forthcoming debut album charts a year in the life. Through confessional lyricism and crooning charisma, the album turns personal experience into communal catharsis. Full of the lush synth-warble and pop pathos for which the band are known, the album is the self-assured extension of their double EP Guilt Pop/Stay Posi (GP/SP).

Giuliano Ferla has been writing, playing and releasing music for the past 15 years. A child of the post-WWII Italian migration to Australia, Giuliano find his expression in his music and the way he relates to his audience through live performance. After the end of Twin Beasts (formerly the Toot Toot Toots) with whom he had released two albums, toured Australia extensively and played slots at Meredith Music Festival, Queenscliff and more, Giuliano focused his musical energy into self producing the slow-burn pop bangers that have marked FERLA's music so far. FERLA have supported Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Cash Savage And The Last Drinks, Totally Mild, Jess Ribeiro, The Bennies and Gabriella Cohen.
