FiSHiN Wollondilly for the Greater Good

Sydneysiders far and wide are being urged to reel in their families and friends to have some fun on the water to benefit Aussie families in need. The annual FiSHiN' Wollondilly, where the fish are always biting, is set to take place at Wollondilly Leisure Centre on August 3rd & 4th + 10th & 11th.

The fishiest event on the calendar is for like-minded fishermen, women and children who are all hooked on raising money for, Our Community Pantry (OCP) a food rescue organisation based in the Wollondilly region. During the first two weekends in August, Wollondilly's 25m outdoor swimming pool becomes a fishing mecca, with fishing enthusiasts dropping their rod to snare one of the 900* rainbow trout stocked in the pool. The pool is divided into 42 fishing sections with six one hour sessions available each day, affording anglers of all ages and abilities the chance to lure a 30cm rainbow trout or one of 10 signature 80cm brown trout.

Event organiser and Our Community Pantry's Founder, Paula Zrilic said FiSHiN Wollondilly is open to all, just like her charity. "It is an activity everyone can enjoy, from families and friends to sporting teams and work colleagues seeking to promote teamwork and morale," Zrilic continues "Get ready for some fun and fishing as FiSHiN' Wollondilly is the ultimate social event on water and we are anticipating this year's event will be just as popular as the last."

Our Community Pantry's mission is that no Australian child should suffer the physical and emotional scars stemming from witnessing their parents struggle to put food on the table. Paula and her team's efforts in diverting edible fresh food, household and pantry items destined for landfill, allow over 2,500 local families regular access to hampers of food and household items as well as pre-cooked meals at affordable prices. This non-denominational and no health care card required social enterprise welcomes all. With a spike in food insecurity, OCP is hoping to grow its services and will put all monies raised toward a Pantech truck, where our school of volunteers can take Our Community Pantry on the road linking fresh food to more people in surrounding areas."

Local fishing Club, Zoo Bar are hook, line and sinker into FiSHiN' Wollondilly and will provide rods and reels as well as sharing their secret fishing tips with visitors. And, when the fish stop biting or your times up – members will be on hand to clean and gut each catch, ready to take home.
