There's a celestial, almost immortal quality to Archipelago Heart, the big, bold, 80s-inspired new single by Australian alt-folk charge, Forest Falls. Staunch in its conviction, the single pairs a strong political message about the beauty of modern love in all its forms with a fully expanded sound, earworm rhythms, and an analogue synth-injected chorus to die for. The single and accompanying clip by Quiet Giant will launch on the big screen at Federation Square on Friday 6 May 2016 in a free, public event.
Archipelago Heart is the first in a collection of works titled Modern Love, set for online release throughout 2016. The common thread amongst the tracks is an exploration of the simple, powerful idea that love knows no boundaries. 'The space-like aesthetic of Archipelago Heart is all about The Overview Effect", says Jon. 'That shift in awareness astronauts have reported when looking down at Earth and realising that we're all in this together. With Archipelago Heart, this first installation of the Modern Love collection, we tackle the issue of -love for displaced people'; we a band being honest in its convictions, and sound".
Produced in Forest's own studio and mixed by Steven Schram (Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes, Paul Kelly, San Cisco), Archipelago Heart is a perfect thematic introduction to Forest Falls' evolved sound. Rich, multi-part harmonies of pure Forest Falls branding weave amongst a sound palette that is vast and otherworldly, yet defiant, resolute and honed. The track's hooky, alt-pop edge is perfectly measured and never overdone, displaying a class and honesty that sets the single apart from the pack.
