Synopsis: Weaving three interconnected narratives into an overarching tale of love and loss, FOXTROT blends comedy and tragedy in a wholly unique way.
Michael and Dafna, an affluent urban couple in Tel Aviv, are devastated when army officials show up at their home to announce the death of their son Jonathan. Michael (Israeli screen legend Lior Ashkenazi) becomes increasingly frustrated by overzealous relatives and well-meaning army bureaucrats. While his sedated wife rests, he spirals into a whirlwind of emotions, which rival the surreal and darkly comic military experiences of his son.
The sophomore feature film from director Samuel Maoz (2009's celebrated Lebanon), Foxtrot is a visually bold and emotionally powerful exploration of family, grief and the absurd futility of war.
While at times a controversial film in its native Israel, the film scooped the pool at the Ophirs (Israeli Academy Awards) and was the country's official submission to the Oscars.
