Freya Ridings is the new star tipped by everyone from Taylor Swift to Florence Welch and Richard Quinn. Following her breakthrough in 2018 with the platinum-selling hit 'Lost Without You', Ridings has been riding high all over the world. Her latest single 'Castles' has been climbing the charts with support from Australian commercial radio, currently sitting at #4 on the ARIA digital singles chart and has achieved gold ARIA certification.
Now, Freya Ridings has announced her first tour of Australia which sees the English pop star performing two intimate performances, first at the Metro Theatre in Sydney on March 10 and Melbourne's Corner Hotel on March 12.
Becoming a surprise success story with her single, 'Lost Without You', a once-in-a-lifetime song that immediately put Freya on the map, the heartbreak hit which was synched 16 times for TV and film, including high-profile placements in the US on "American Idol" and "Grey's Anatomy" went on to chart in the Top 10 on seven separate occasions during a six-month run in the Top 40.
Earlier this year Freya released her highly anticipated self-titled debut album before completing her biggest UK tour to date. Here she performed to more than 23,000 people, with more than 5,000 of those located in London. While 'Lost Without You' established Freya's rising star status, it was the strength of her live shows that first earned her a word-of-mouth fanbase – as captured in her early live recordings "Live At Omeara" and "Live At St. Pancras Old Church". Every tour has seen Freya rise to play bigger venues, which most recently included a sold-out London concert at The Roundhouse.
Aside from touring relentlessly, Freya has also performed huge festival sets at Glastonbury's John Peel Stage, Isle of Wight Festival, Latitude, the BBC Summer Social, Wilderness Festival and Electric Picnic. Early live reviews stated: "Each song and every lyric was delivered impeccably and with heart, demonstrating there was real angst and emotion entwined within those words," (The Independent).
Her debut album features previously released singles 'Lost Without You', 'You Mean The World To Me', 'Blackout' and 'Castles', with Freya writing all of the eleven songs that feature on the album, underpinning her world class credentials as a songwriter. In an era in which hits are inevitably written by committee, 'Lost Without You' saw Freya become the first female artist to have an entirely self-written Top 10 hit since Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill' returned to the charts in 2012.
As an artist who frequently explores themes of doubt, pain, regret and vulnerability within songs of alchemical incandescence, Freya's extraordinary, vibrato-rich voice elevates them into her greatness – a vocal gift that's undoubtedly one of the most powerful voices of her generation and one which Australian audiences will finally experience live this March.
