G-NAT!ON Girls Night Out Interview

Australia's All-Girl Group G-Nat!On Release Debut Single 'Girls Night Out'

Australia is about to get the first taste of all-girl R&B and Pop group – G-NAT!ON, a six-piece singing sensation from Adelaide that are set to release their debut upbeat summer single, 'GIRLS NIGHT OUT' and these girls are on a mission to impact the Australian music scene.

Described as 'a powerhouse of harmonies', Taylah, Isla, Mateja, Alessia, Emma and Rylee are G- NAT!ON. It's not just their voices that will blow you away, they have impressed audiences all over Australia with some of the most dynamic vocal performances and dance choreography proving they can compete in the competitive global pop market.

G-NAT!ON was formulated in 2017, by performing arts director - Pep Rigano from the Australian Company of Performing Arts. His vision was to establish a group of young, inspiring and talented girls who could stand together and represent female empowerment. Pep believes 'It's so important in today's society, that girls support each other and build confidence to feel comfortable in their own skin'.

Their new single, 'GIRLS NIGHT OUT', reflects exactly that. The song is about girls 'embracing their sisterhood' and owning the night. Girls can dress up, feel good and dance the night away without needing any boys to have a good time.

'Can a girl not have a fun night out with her friends without being cat called and hit up by a guy? We love this song because it's the type of track you can't help but get up and dance to, it represents exactly who we are' – Says lead singer, Taylah

Interview with G-NAT!ON

Question: How would you describe G-NAT!ON?

G-NAT!ON: We are an empowered group of six girls who all have the same passion for performing. We have a unique sound as we tend to mix the genre of R&B and pop. We love fresh harmonies and creative hooks but most of all we love inspiring others and performing for our fans.

Question: Can you tell us about Girls Night Out?

G-NAT!ON: 'Girls Night Out' is our very first single release and we believe it is the summer anthem that everyone needs to hear. The tropical pop sound and influence that we decided to embrace, is incredibly catchy and will get you up dancing. It follows a strong message about how girls can go out and have a great time without the interruption of boys.

Question: What inspired the track Girls Night Out?

G-NAT!ON: I think it was easy for all of us to connect with Girls Night Out as the story behind it is so relevant to today's issues. Girls love going out and dressing up which can be mistaken for us trying to impress others. We believe it's not about dressing up for others, but it's more about dressing up for yourself and having a good time. Because of this common societal pressure we were so inspired to sing about this problem and empower young women like ourselves.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

G-NAT!ON: Teenage girls face a lot of hate, sometimes they find it hard to love themselves for who they are. I think this is what inspires us most, we believe in lifting each other up, supporting each other and feeling comfortable in our own skin. If we can relay these messages through our music then we are reaching our goal as a band.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

G-NAT!ON: Performing live; there is a big difference between performing for a crowd and recording in the studio. Although recording in the studio can be so much fun and exciting, the atmosphere, love and support that crowds give is such an incredible feeling. So I'd have to say performing live…

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

G-NAT!ON: Our favourite song to perform live would have to be Wings by Little Mix. It was the very first song we learnt and performed as a band and always reminds us of where we started. It is so cool to see how far we have come as a group and Wings will always be the song to bring back the memories.

Question: How did the band come together?

G-NAT!ON: Some of us already knew each other as we danced together at the Australian Company of Performing Arts. However, Pep Rigano, our manager, had this incredible vision to create a female pop group that would empower young women through strong messages and great music. We all attended an audition with about 60 other girls and were so lucky to be chosen! Now you can't separate us (laughs).

Question: Which music/ artists are you currently listening to?

G-NAT!ON: We all have very different music tastes and interests so each of us is listening to different music and artists. Currently we are listening to:
Taylah's Choice: 'Vesuvius' by Guy Sebastian.
Alessia's Choice: 'Bloodline' by Ariana Grande.
Emma's Choice: 'Crazy In Love' by Beyonce.
Isla's Choice: 'Good For You' by Lizzo.
Rylee's Choice: 'Senorita' by Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes.
Mateja's Choice: 'Me Necesita' by PrettyMuch.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry

G-NAT!ON: I think our main inspiration was our passion for confidence and girl power. There also aren't many girl bands in the industry as of right now so we thought why not put the two together and create something unique and special! Obviously we also take inspiration from other girl bands like little mix, the spice girls and destiny's child but we really want to bring something new and fresh to the table and so far it has been a crazy ride.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist who would it be?

G-NAT!ON: We would love to collaborate with… 'PRETTYMUCH' or 'Why Don't We'. How cool would it be to collaborate with another band!

Question: What's a typical day like?

G-NAT!ON: For G-NAT!ON our day changes all the time. Generally, during a rehearsal day we learn new content together, improve our vocal skill set, learn new dance choreography but mostly have a good time. Hard work is key but that doesn't mean we don't have fun while working hard! Because we all have such different personalities our rehearsals are always a crazy experience.

Question: What has been your favourite part about becoming a music artist?

G-NAT!ON: The best part about becoming a music artist is the love and support that comes with it. Performing for live audiences with your own music is a really special experience for us, especially at such a young age. Being with the girls, has enabled us to create new and unbreakable friendships. We have loved every step of the journey so far and can't wait to see where the industry takes us!
