George Maple Sticks and Horses
Sticks and Horses is a bold sonic step forward for Maple, bright and brash and inspired by her observations of 'power, sex, money, and greed." D.C rapper GoldLink, who visited Australian shores this year for Laneway Festival 2016, sends the track stratospheric with his high-impact verses. Written and recorded during her time in Philadelphia, New York and D.C., the song is co-produced by Maple, alongside long time friends and collaborators Noah Breakfast, WILLIS and What So Not.
The song is accompanied by an explosive video, the perfect extension of the themes of power, sex, money and greed with Maple and her co-stars embodying the role of the black widow spider luring her victim. Whether it is a game of revenge or seeking pleasure in pain is entirely open to interpretation. Directed by Leticia Dare with editing by Josiah Spencer (Drunk In Love) and shot in Palm Springs / Joshua Tree, it is undoubtedly one of the most striking visuals you'll see this year. The song is a battle for authority between lovers, produced as the sort of strip club anthem that would ignite at Atlanta's Magic City " Maple even road tested the track at a strip club to make sure she was on the right path. 'I took the track to a strip club and asked the owner if he could test it out to see how the dancers moved," Maple says, 'I wanted to test the energy of the track. I wanted the track to feel like desire and temptation, somewhere deep in a fantasy, the strip club was always the perfect backdrop."
Maple's acclaimed debut EP, -Vacant Space', arrived via esteemed Australian label Future Classic in 2014, with lead single, Talk, Talk hitting over 4 million SoundCloud plays. As a live performer, Maple has sold out shows across Australia, in L.A. and in London, appeared at Coachella and Lollapalooza, and has performed alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Flight Facilities. Behind the scenes, her writing and production credits include artists such as Hayden James, Snakehips, Flight Facilities, Flume and Tkay Maidza, with her projects clocking up a total of 70 million SoundCloud plays across the board.
