Georgia State Line In Colour

Honest, agile, and refreshingly self-assured, Georgia State Line's unique brand of country-infused melancholy yields music that's equal parts heartsick and hopeful.

The stage moniker of Australian singer/songwriter Georgia Delves, Georgia State Line blends both vintage and contemporary sounds to craft songs steeped in Tennessee sunsets. Delves' voice is effortlessly colourful, lyrical and textural with a depth and grace to rival even the most revered of talents.

Born and raised in the regional Victorian town of Bendigo on a balanced diet of guitar, voice and classical violin, Georgia Delves sang in Catholic school choirs by day and cut her teeth on the local pub music scene by night. It was her grandparents who introduced Delves to her beloved American country music of the 1960s and 70s. In this, Georgia Delves had met her match. Armed with her guitar and a book of lyrics heartfelt and resolute, she moved to Melbourne and started a band.

Recorded by James Cecil (Architecture in Helsinki, The Orbweavers) at his studio, Super Melody in the beautiful Macedon Ranges, debut album, "In Colour" documents Delves' journey ever since. It's an intimate, playful, lustrous and often disarming snapshot of the tempestuous personal highs and lows of the last two years. "These songs really embody what it means to move through the pains and joy of inevitable change." she says.

"When the possibility of releasing an album began to seep into my mind, I'd just moved out of home, sold all my belongings, and said yes to six months of touring the East coast in a van."

It was a life on the road that would prove her greatest creative catalyst yet. But when the thrilling unpredictability of the trip ended and her van promptly blew up and combusted (no, really), Delves felt a new day dawning. Luckily, an album came with it.

Every gorgeous aural moment of "In Colour" details Delves' interactions with people she met on the road, and whose perspectives shaped her - for better or for worse. Single, "Every Time" is an intimate account of release after the end of a relationship - of settling the expectation to feel loss, and instead, celebrating the memories for their inherent beauty. Highlight track, "The Ones We Love", on the other hand, explores Delves' musings over how past loves will remember her when she leaves this Earth.

Shining with empathy, creativity and courage, it's a release that will further cement Georgia State Line's place at the centre of exciting Australian music-making.

She has appeared at festivals across the country including Tamworth Country Music Festival, Australian Music Week and Out On The Weekend, and opened shows for country-music heavy weights, Eilen Jewell (USA) and Justin Townes Earle (USA).
