Crown Melbourne has launched a Japanese Izakaya called Gochi.
In Japanese Gochi means -small feast' or -small meal'. At Crown this translates to favourite dishes such as karaage, (soy and sake marinated fried chicken, $7.50), tekka maki (tuna, $4.10) and spider (tempura soft shell crab,$7.10) sushi rolls. Authentic, fresh and fast, Gochi is unlike anything else previously on offer at Crown.
Running the open kitchen are two former Nobu Melbourne chefs, Juntaro Fujimura and Heejon Jung. Having such seasoned chefs in the restaurant's open kitchen results in expertly prepared dishes with subtle, nuanced flavours. Dishes are presented in a simple, traditional Japanese style.
Designed by Melbourne-based interior architects, Mim Design, one of Gochi's stand-out features is bold splashes of red inspired by the Japanese flag. Timber and stone creates a neutral backdrop throughout the intimate space while Japanese-influenced elements such as basket-weaving, custom-designed chopstick light-fittings and woven rope details add further texture to this compact space.
Located opposite Giuseppe, Arnaldo & Sons, the 40 seat restaurant's menu features a choice of three Bento boxes ($15.50-$17.50), sushi and sashimi ($11.00-$24.00), yakitori ($6.50-$8.50), a selection of traditional and contemporary sushi rolls ($3.80- $7.10) as well as over 12 small plates such as prawn tempura ($9.00), beef tataki ($7.50), or tea-cured salmon with yuzu and coriander ($9.00).
'We are thrilled to be adding to our existing Japanese portfolio that includes both Nobu and Koko. Gochi is relaxed, casual and offer diners the chance to dine in or take their meal outside onto Crown's Riverwalk. It's ideal for a quick meal prior to a movie or a new lunch destination for busy local office workers," comments Crown Melbourne's General Manager, Public Relations, Ann Peacock.
Diners may choose to dine-in or takeaway. Gochi is open seven days a week from 11am.
