The corporate mantra of cutting costs has played a significant part in ensuring Aussies are working harder than ever with 42% saying they do not have the staffing or IT support required to do their jobs efficiently.
70% say they are expected to work more, and 64% say they are expected to work longer hours than they were five years ago according to the 1, 960 respondents.
Ms Paula Baskus from Talent2, says that 71% of Aussies say their bosses expect them to do the work of more than one person, and consequently 50% of Australian?s say that job descriptions are obsolete.
"48% of Aussies say they are over worked. The resounding response from those surveyed is that their company needs to hire more staff to make them more efficient, followed by new computers and new photocopiers."
"Cutting costs, corners and staffing levels in an effort to make a business more profitable will, in the long term, put a strain on any business. As employees become more and more overworked, staff turnover will increase. This will lead to higher recruitment costs and a loss of intellectual property from the company."
