Haven Swimming In Your Feelings Interview

Haven launches pop career after touring with Thomas Rhett, Lady Antebellum, Toby Keith and Hunter Hayes.

Singer/songwriter Haven is nothing short of a pop powerhouse. Her young career kicked off by writing country tunes in the heart of country music, Nashville. Growing up in the 1,600-person town of Moville, Iowa, Haven decided to head to 'music city' at age 12 – where her singing and songwriting talents were quickly recognized. A small-town girl with a big-time stage presence, Haven began touring the nation by age 15 with major country acts such as Thomas Rhett, Lady Antebellum, Toby Keith and Hunter Hayes.

While Haven's music is now planted in pop, her artistry is still guided by the story-driven lyrics and heart-melting melodies defined by her country roots. Her debut pop single "Swimming In Your Feelings" is set to release on Friday, November 1st

Interview with Haven

Question: How would you describe your music?

Haven: I would describe my music as a mix of female Bazzi, Shania Twain and Julia Michaels. I grew up on Shania Twain, so my music has a flavor of the confidence she brings into a lot of her music. I also love the conversational and vulnerable lyrics of Julia Michaels and the production style of Bazzi. I try to take pieces of what inspire me and make me excited as a listener and incorporate that into what I create.

Question: Can you tell us about Swimming In Your Feelings?

Haven: I'm so excited for "Swimming In Your Feelings" to be out November 1st! I've been writing for this project almost every day for the past year and a half, so to get to finally start sharing all of my work is incredibly exciting for me. I wrote "Swimming In Your Feelings" about a year ago, when I first started coming out to LA. Long story short…I dated an LA boy, we broke up, and I wrote a song about it. I feel like most of us have felt like we're swimming in somebody's feelings at some point. Even though it's technically a breakup song, I wanted it to still feel like a jam and not just another sad song. So I hope y'all turn it up and enjoy it!

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Haven: I 1,000,000% enjoy performing live over recording; performing is my favorite part of music! I love meeting new people, connecting with the audience and the energy that I feel when I'm on stage, it's unexplainable!

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Haven: My favorite song to perform live is "Middle School" mostly because I love the choreography to it!

Question: If you could have anyone in the world attend a show, who would it be?

Haven: If I could have anyone in the world attend a show it would be my Grandma Diane; she passed away last year and I'd give anything to see her face in the audience again, she was my biggest supporter. <3

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Haven: Honestly, it's just whatever I'm feeling in the moment and however the track is making me feel, I love to vibe off of the music in the room and write to how that feels.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Haven: I'm currently listening to Kanye West's new album "Jesus Is King" while I'm typing this, it's my first time hearing it and I love it! I also have been listening to Selena Gomez's new releases nonstop, LOVE her new music!

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Haven: My biggest inspiration musically growing up was Shania Twain, my mum took me to my first concert to see Shania when I was four years old and I remember looking up at her and saying, "I want to do that". From that moment, I've been dreaming of selling out stadiums.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Haven: If I could collaborate with another artist it would probably be Bazzi or Julia Michaels, I'm such a huge fan of their work! I also grew up listening to Shania Twain and she was my inspiration so to work with her to any capacity would be a dream come true for me.

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Haven: I think the biggest challenge I've faced along this musical journey is learning to be patient and enjoy each moment. I think sometimes I have this picture in my mind of where I want to be and I spend so much time thinking about where I want to be that I don't enjoy where I'm at right now, I've really learned to enjoy the process, be patient, and work hard.

Question: What's a typical day like?

Haven: A typical day for me is waking up, working out, and then going to the studio to make music. I'm so excited to share what I've been working on and for "Swimming In Your Feelings" to be out in the world, can't wait!

Question: Can you share your socials?

Haven: Yes! My socials on Instagram and Twitter are @iamhavenmusic and on Facebook you can find me at HAVEN Music! Would love to connect with y'all!
