Nestled among the brightly coloured terracotta houses and colonial-era church spires of Mexico's UNESCO-listed city San Miguel de Allende, there is an artistic revolution taking place. Now in its second year the --San Miguel ART'' festival (SMART) - which was greeted with huge enthusiasm and participation when it was launched last year, is back from May 31st - June 2nd.

Design Hotels™ member, Hotel Matilda is known for its eclectic collection of contemporary art, where strategically placed works by emerging and established stars of the Mexican art world sit against a blank canvas of unadorned walls. With the SMART festival, Hotel Matilda brings the future to the historic cobbled streets of San Miguel.
--SMART is a high-energy, of-the moment alternative to the traditional Old World festivals of San Miguel,'' explains Hotel Matilda Director Bruce James. --We tap into the scene and vibe of today with an exotic mix of experiences, from striking contemporary art exhibits to parties and tequila tastings. This will be our second annual SMART and it promises to be even better than last year's.''
Festival goers will have the opportunity to view works by many of Mexico's hottest artists, including sculptor Bosco Sodi, acclaimed for his large installations including his vivid --Blue Pangaea'' masterpiece which sits pride of place in Hotel Matilda. Three of Mexico City's leading galleries, Galeria Enrique Guerrero, Ricardo Reyes Arte and Sotheby's, will take the opportunity to showcase their top contemporary artists in exhibitions across several locations, including Hotel Matilda.
About the Hotel

In the 32 rooms and suites, Mexican touches like textured wood and indigenous rugs are juxtaposed with marble floors, lush caramel furnishings and bold pops of turquoise. At restaurant Moxi, classic Mexican cuisine is flavoured with innovative international trends, and bursts with local freshness with -farm-to-table' ingredients. Bar Moxi's mixologist blends indigenous local fruits to create the finest classic and original concoctions. A collection of global and locally inspired treatments awaits guests at the Spa, where a Turkish Hammam and an indoor and outdoor relaxation lounge combine with cutting-edge facilities.
