Indica Records Kim Churchill and Half Moon Run

As label head Franz Schuller unveils Indica Australia, the label is readying itself for its inaugural releases: the first, 'Detail Of Distance" from Merimbula's Kim Churchill and Canadian trio Half Moon Run's highly anticipated debut, 'Dark Eyes", to follow.

At just 21 years of age, Kim Churchill is revered worldwide for his guitar talents, with a technique and lyrical outlook far beyond his years. His style is unique and explosive, with intricate fingerpicking, percussive beats on the body of the guitar, and two-handed tapping intertwined with an earthy stomp box, powerful harmonica melodies and soulful voice.

Having played for more than a decade, Kim's career kicked off in 2009 after high school, busking and travelling Australia in a campervan to share his music with friends and strangers alike. Since then, he has won the National Youth Folk Artist of the Year award in 2009, been selected from hundreds by the Byron Bay Bluesfest Busker competition in 2010, and was added twice to the famous festival's line-up in 2011, sharing the main stage with Xavier Rudd, Michael Franti, Ben Harper, Paul Kelly and the great Bob Dylan.

He has also performed at The Falls Festival, Woodford Folk Festival and Queenscliff Music Festival among others, and in the last 12 months has taken his show to Japan, Canada, the UK and the US.

Half Moon Run is a talented young trio based in Montreal, Canada, evolving from the walls of a sweaty room in the city's mile-end district. It was there that they created their unique sound, fusing together the restless elements of indie, pop and folk with beautiful rhythmic harmonies, delicate guitar lines and a hint of warm electronica.

The three members of Half Moon Run combine varied musical backgrounds, often trading instruments and multitasking to great effect. Folky three-part harmonies hold down moody, psychedelic arrangements and electronic-infused soundscapes. Together for less than two years, the band has quickly caught the ear of programmers and tastemakers, opening for indie-electro-pop duet Phantogram last year and wowing audiences at Transmission, CMW and M for Montreal.
