Canberra based emcee 'Indighost' returns with the first single 'Red Light' from his highly anticipated project Illumination. Illumination blossoms from the darkest period of Indighost's life, highlighting mental health and family struggles, and the need to find his release through Hip Hop and writing.
'Red Light' was the last cut to be written for the record, which originally served as a means to an end to finish 'Illumination', but quickly became the main focus as he explored themes of positivity, focus and getting his mind clear, not only for himself but his loved ones around him. Layering his thoughts over a classic boom bap style beat produced by 'The Husssh' (B Wise), Indighost travels through a vortex of his current situation whilst constantly reminding himself that he has power through creativity.
Studying the likes of Hip Hop storytellers Nas & Blu, and working stages such as Groovin The Moo and Foreshore with his past crew RCR, Indighost has a well-balanced style to overcome his peers, which is evident in his multi's and well-structured bars that make you rewind the track twice before catching on.
Question: What inspired the track Red Light?
Indighost: Red Light was the last track I wrote for the album, I got to a point where I was super blocked and could have given up on the project because I wasn't in the best place mentally. Instead I wrote this track about needing to just stop and get my head right before I could progress any further it turned out to be the juice I needed to get the rest of the album finished.
Question: What can you share with us about your upcoming EP, Illumination?
Indighost: It has nine tracks, capturing about a two year period for me where I moved interstate and back, then dealt with a whole lot. Production is mostly handled by my bro Hayds on some soulful boom bap vibes with some different flavours, throughout. I've got features from homies - Omar Musa, Suavess, Immy and Wizz.
Question: What message do you hope your music spreads?
Indighost: I just want to make people FEEL from listening to my music. Whatever it may be, I just want to evoke feeling and thought. I feel like lyricism is making a bit of a comeback in the wider hip hop, so hopefully people can tune in and go on a journey with me.
Question: Was it difficult to relieve certain aspects of your life whilst writing for Illumination?
