Dear Girl,

I met a guy on the Net recently. We started out alright until he met one of my friends. He is now going out with her. I am still friends with him but now my friend wants to stop me from talking to him. And she keeps talking about how well they are getting on. Is that because she thinks I would steal him from her? What should I do?

Signed Net Lover.

Dear Net Lover,

I fully understand how this situation can prove awkward for both you and your friend. Try to put yourself in your friend's shoes. Imagine how she is feeling right now - possibly suspicious, confused, and betrayed. Your friend is now romantically involved with the 'Internet' guy. Although your friend may trust you, she is most likely questioning why it is that you feel the need to pursue this Internet relationship (friendship or whatever) with this guy, especially since you have only recently found him on the Net. Think about it, this situation is not dissimilar to you frequently calling up your friend's boyfriend to have a 'chat'. Seriously, ask yourself why it is that you need to engage in cyber chat with this guy? If it is because you are bored and/or lonely then there are many other guys over the Net as well as in bars, cinemas, school/uni, gym, and the list goes on. Remember, even if you continue to chat with this 'Internet' guy, be prepared for the dynamics of your 'relationship' with him to change. It will no longer be intriguing and exciting, will it? I know this may be hard for you right now, but I suggest not complicating your life unnecessarily and running the risk of ruining what is a meaningful and reliable friendship. May the force be with you girlfriend!
