Isobel Galloway Apple Tree Interview

Isobel Galloway Apple Tree Interview

Interview with Isobel Galloway

Question: How would you describe your music?

Isobel Galloway: At the moment my music is a blend of contemporary pop, soul, jazz and blues. I'm sure my sound will change over time as I evolve as a person and an artist. I want to move and empower people with my music and my story telling.

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Isobel Galloway: I love performing any of my originals and I have many favourite songs that I love to cover, if I had to choose it would have to be "Apple Tree" the lyrics resonate with me so deeply and I just feel like a sexy, powerful woman when I'm singing it.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

Isobel Galloway: This is a hard one. It's a little corny but it would have to be Ellen DeGeneres. I love everything she is about; her kindness and love for human beings and animals inspires me and I would just love to meet her and absorb as much knowledge as I could.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Isobel Galloway: Both are so different but there is nothing like performing live, it's electrifying and addictive. It's an absolute privilege to share my voice and my journey with a room full of people, exchanging energies, stories and love.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Isobel Galloway: My music is definitely a reflection of my life and my experiences. I am motivated by the highs and lows of life, the beauty and the pain around us. A lot of my songwriting is inspired by my own personal experiences of loss, love, fear, happiness etc. I am also inspired by my friends and family and their experiences, or a magical place or experience in nature.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Isobel Galloway: I love listening to an eclectic mix of music. The past month I have been listening to H.E.R, Maggie Rogers, Jorja Smith, Odette, Jeff Buckley, Bruce Springsteen, Etta James, Emeli Sande, The Internet, Alicia Keys, Carly Simon, Solange, John Legend, Jessie J, Tina Turner and Fleetwood Mac.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Isobel Galloway: I grew up listening to Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald and George Michael. I was so moved by music growing up, soul music always inspired me. When I was about 6 years old I went along with a friend to her singing lesson and the teacher asked me if I would like to sing. I remember jumping up and letting out this extremely deep, soulful voice for such a small girl. I remember feeling the vibrations through my body and I was hooked. From them on I never shut up. I then continued to get singing lessons and when I was about 14 I realised this is ALL I want to do with my life.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Isobel Galloway: There are so many artists I would love to collaborate with. I would love to collaborate with an array of different producers but if I had to pick an artist at this moment in my life it would have to be John Legend. I'm a huge fan and I feel like our songwriting and tone of voice would complement each other so well and I feel I could learn so much from him.

Question: Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?

Isobel Galloway: I did, when I was a teenager I had this idea that if you were talented and passionate you would be successful in the music industry. Over the years I have learnt that it is not only about being talented and passionate, it's about hard work, perseverance, intention, networking and never losing sight of your dream. Success means different things to different people so just keep going and NEVER give up.

Question: What's a typical day like?

Isobel Galloway: My days are always different. I like it that way. Most days start with meditation and acknowledging all that I am grateful for. A loving, warm embrace with my fiancé to start off the day is my fuel. I always create space for my music and creativity to flow, I am either at the piano for hours of a night time or with my guitar working on new ideas, melodies etc. I am always working on content, curating photo shoots, brainstorming ideas and concepts and ensuring I enjoy the process of creating and pursuing my career. Recently I have been in the studio a lot more than usual and working on a concept for some upcoming shows.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Isobel Galloway: Being able to heal myself and others through music. There is never a dull moment, things are always moving and evolving and nothing is for certain so it's like living on the edge. I just LOVE it.

Question: Can you tell us 5 things required for a happy healthy and enjoyable life?

Isobel Galloway: Supportive friends and family, unconditional love, music, Mother Nature and nourishing food. It's the simple things that give me the most joy.
