Multi-talented self taught singer-songwriter James Oxley returns with his sophomore single 'Miss You'. After a tumultuous year that has seen James leave high school to chase music, perform on live TV and make it into the Top 100 on The Voice Australia, whilst also releasing his debut single 'Know Me' to great acclaim.
The 17-year old Brisbane-based performer has proved his determination on many occasions, facing adversity and set backs he never ceases to persevere with his music. Competing on The Voice in May this year was a short lived venture for James, though one that only helped him develop his talent. "Thank you" James says to his fans via social media. "As most of you know I auditioned for the voice Australia, although I didn't get far, it was an amazing experience and taught me some valuable lessons."
All proven through his consistent output of well-executed cover videos and now his second heartfelt single 'Miss You'. With production and melody accents similar to Trinidad Cardona and vocal tones comparable to Liam Payne and Shawn Mendes, 'Miss You' brings an epic arrangement of electronic-pop to further diversify the sound of the self taught acoustic singer-songwriter.
Question: How would you describe your music?
James Oxley: My music arranges from acoustic pop to R&B, but being a songwriter, I want my music to have many different meanings and be interpreted in any way possible. I try to make my music relevant for everyone, no matter what age or gender.
Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?
James Oxley: My favourite song to perform live would have been my latest single "Justify" with musical elements such as bass guitar and high tempo, which really helps get strong interaction with the crowd and is just really fun to play.
Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?
James Oxley: Both are very different, but I would definitely perform live over recording any day. I absolutely love interacting with the crowd and taking people away from reality throughout a song. Mostly I write music about past experiences or things happening in people's lives, I guess whenever I need to express how I feel I turn to music.
Question: What motivates you most when writing music?
James Oxley: I look up to so many artists, Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury really helped influence my music, taught me to stand out and be different from the crowd. If I could have anyone in the world attend my show, I would have to go with Justin Beiber, I believe he is such a good artist and so underrated for the talent he has. After singing one of his hit singles earlier this year on The Voice Australia I have been inspired to write music similar to the songs releases.
