Following her debut at the Cannes film festival to promote her new film, The Sapphires, Darwin-born singer and actress Jessica Mauboy jetted off to Yeosu to perform to thousands of Expo attendees as part of the Australian Pavilion National Day celebrations at the 2012 Yeosu Expo, South Korea.
Singing on a floating stage, the ARIA-nominated singer/songwriter performed in front of 3,000 fans.
Held from 12th May – 12th August 2012 Yeosu Expo 2012, which has a focus on balancing the preservation of ocean and coastal areas with economic development, is expected to attract eight million visitors from all over the world. Participation in the Expo will highlight Australia's leadership in protecting the ocean and coastal areas.
Australia's National Day is a unique opportunity to showcase the best of Australia and celebrate the highly valued long-lasting bilateral relationship between Australia and Korea. Each country at the Expo will have the opportunity to host its own national day.
With the theme 'The Living Ocean and the Coast: Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities," the Australian Pavilion is one of the most popular pavilions at the Expo, already welcoming thousands of visitors through its doors.
Commenting on her role as an Australian Pavilion Goodwill Ambassador, Jessica said: 'As an indigenous Australian raised in Darwin, I was really excited to have been asked to work with the Australian Government to help showcase the best of Australia.
'Having grown up by the ocean on Australia's most northerly coast, I feel strongly about the theme of the Yeosu Expo, -The Living Ocean and Coast.' I think it is important for each and every one of us to play a part in helping to protect our marine environments."
Mauboy was joined by fellow Australian Pavilion Goodwill Ambassadors, international model and TV presenter, Jessica Gomes, and Korean-born Australian fashion designer Yeojin Bae at the national day celebrations.
The Australian Pavilion also came alive during the day's celebrations with special acts from unique Australian artists Born in a Taxi, Bright Splinters, Suade, Chiri, Strut -n' Fret and traditional performances by Indigenous Australians in collaboration with traditional Korean performances.
