Joelistics x Parvyn 5 Rivers

Joelistics x Parvyn 5 Rivers

Ahead of the release of his forthcoming concept album and multidisciplinary project Film School, Melbourne electronic/hip hop producer Joelistics is thrilled to reveal his latest single '5 Rivers'. A collaborative track with beloved Indian classical vocalist Parvyn Singh (The Bombay Royale), '5 Rivers' is the third offering to feature on Joelistics' ambitious new project that brings together electronica, dance music and global influences in a sprawling soundtrack of immersive atmospherics. Crafting a transient world of beats, synths and their visual counterparts, Joelistics is thrilled to announce that his Joelistics Presents Film School LP will be released via independent label Odd Head Music on Friday 12 March, with vinyl presales available via Joelistics Bandcamp.

Sonically rich and built from a world of Indian melodies, dreamy synths and beats that dwell on the edge of anticipation, '5 Rivers', is a song about letting go to find oneself, about the ties of the mortal world and how they anchor us when we're adrift. Parvyn's lyrics and melodies draw you into a world that exists somewhere between an ancient Indian riverbank and a modern city life, while Joelistics' production is a deep dive into ambience, rising tension and floor shaking bass. A patient song anchored by the means rather than the ends, Pavryn's voice buoys the listener across a gentle sea peppered by the sudden, entropic disturbances of Joelistics' rippling beats, bass and synths, before surrendering to the waves of one final outburst that crashes over and settles into an exquisite coalescence.

"5 Rivers is a gentle piece built from the bones of a beautiful lyric from Parvyn. With the production, I wanted to ground it in modern production but also create a world in which Parvyn's voice invites you on to an ancient riverbank and lulls you in the arms of warm synths and watery guitars." - Joelistics

"I wrote this song after having had a conversation with a dear friend from within my community who admitted to me that she was having thoughts of suicide. We were in a swanky hotel lobby in town, where she was staying near the Yarra River. She is a successful artist in her own right but was going through dark internal demons. She has since gone from strength to strength and is doing really well in both her personal life and career. Her having the courage to reach out and talk about it I found incredibly inspiring and an important part of healing." - Parvyn Singh

Moody and angular, the roots of Joelistics' Film School project go as far back as 2016 when Joelistics took a trip to his birth land of Malaysia. Whilst in Kuala Lumpur he stocked up on Canto pop records from the 70's and 80's. Over the years following, he collaborated with artists such as Parvyn Singh and Hailey Cramer (HAYCH), often writing for their projects while salvaging some of the more hypnotic grooves for what would soon become Film School. The result is a blend of Pan Asian psychedelia, post-rock stylings and lo fi synth-scapes made from the scraps of ancestor's vocals, dusty loops and traditional Chinese and Western instruments, with an underlying urge to meditate on the anxiety of our times and the transcendence that comes from facing fear.
