Kora Naughton continues to break new ground with her brand new single, "Lay Down & Die", proving yet again that she's not willing to pigeon holed into just one genre.
Her previous two singles – "Speechless" and "My Heart to Break" – took on a more country pop approach while her debut album, "Ride or Die", blended alt country, Americana, traditional and contemporary elements. This time around, Kora takes on the power ballad and shows that she can mix it with the Kelsea's and Kacey's of the country world.
"Writing Lay Down & Die was a really different experience to most of the others I've written because, for me, this song was a way to explore another side of my music", says Kora.
"I really wanted it to shine and be the kind of song where you can close your eyes and just really hear the meaning behind it".
Initially, Kora took the song to her producer – Rod Motbey at Tracking Dog Studios – as a stripped back piano ballad.
"Rod brought it to life in way that was all I could have for and more! I really didn't know what to expect with this song, but the moment I heard the first mix, I knew this had to be the next single. My only hopes for this song is that the audience connects with it in the same way I did when I first heard it".
Kora says the song touches on the subject of self worth and how sometimes our love and loyalties can be misplaced on the wrong person.
"Most of us, in one moment or another, have lacked a little bit of self worth and been at a point where we don't feel like we deserve the very best life has to offer, where we would literally Lay Down & Die for someone who didn't deserve it because we felt like we had to settle. This song is all about those moments".
