'Life isn't over if you missed out on University…" says largest private hair and beauty college.
With first round University placements offered this week, many young Australian's dreams will either come true or be shattered in an instant. Sydney-based -Australasian College Broadway', the largest private Hair and Beauty College in Australia sees many disheartened students come through the door thinking life is over because they missed out. However the College says it doesn't have to be so, and that the options are truly endless. It's the lack of awareness of these pathways that puts so much emphasis on students -getting in'.
Founding Director and Chairman of The Australasian College Broadway, Ms. Maureen Houssein-Mustafa says, 'The disappointment on the faces of students who have missed out is heart breaking. And it's usually pressure that comes from friends and family that's to blame. Students often set themselves up for a fall and when they don't get into Uni, they're at a complete loss. What they don't realise is the abundance of bridging courses to Uni and vocation options await.
'There are also financial support programs such as VET Fee-Help, which are little known. This allows students to study at private colleges now, and pay later. And when students do learn of these options, the sense of relief and newly found direction is thrilling. Often a whole new and exciting world opens to them that becomes more interesting than what they had planned in the first place!"
VET Fee-Help, which is an income contingent loan scheme, allows students to study VET (vocational education and training) accredited Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma hair and beauty therapy courses at the College. Students only pay their tuition loan once their income reaches the minimum threshold level for repayment. All courses offered under the VET Fee-Help scheme provide a pathway to University qualifications. For example, at The Australasian College Broadway, The Diploma of Hairdressing Salon Management articulates to Bachelor of Business (Small Business and Entrepreneurship). This qualification will equip graduates with the professional skills required to successfully own and run their own salon, and includes financial management, marketing and HR.
The Diploma of Beauty Therapy can be credited towards the Bachelor of Health Science (Dermal Therapies). The outcome of this qualification is the ability to work in the paramedical fields, working alongside plastic surgeons and medical professionals.
The College also provides amazing training facilities, and some of the best educators in the field. 'So life just begins for some, if you know where to look!" says Ms. Houssein-Mustafa.
