Lupa J Swallow Me Whole

Lupa J Swallow Me Whole

Since August last year, Sydney based singer-songwriter and producer, Lupa J has been carefully unveiling the core pieces to her highly anticipated debut album, Swallow Me Whole.

Having been dubbed an artist to watch in 2019 by FBi Radio's Music Director - Amelia Jenner and Purple Sneakers, it came as no surprise to see the producer, singer-songwriter receiving editorial features on Spotify and Apple Music with streams spiking in key cities across the world.

When speaking about her debut longform release, Lupa J is as eloquent as she is fierce. This is her journey, her story to finally tell and her formidable coming of age.

"Swallow Me Whole is about a number of different pivotal experiences I had during a period of significant change. Overall, the feeling behind it all is this intense desire for escape, for something unfamiliar and new - a way out of a painful reality that seemed impossible to navigate," explains Lupa J.

"It's about the reckless and desperate feeling that came before I figured out how to take steps towards healing and actual happiness - wanting to throw myself into new and risky situations, to feel completely consumed by something - a person, emotion, desire, intoxication - anything that wasn't my reality."

Each single from the album has allowed us to get a closer glimpse into the life of Lupa J, a stunning creative sharing her truly inspirational journey of self-discovery through art.

"This desperation for some kind of 'escape' was taking over as I was coming to terms with the fact that the relationship I was in was hurting me, that straight relationships repeatedly left me feeling detached from my body and my sexuality - and that I also had a lot of previously unrecognised queer attraction.

Much of the album is focused around a feeling of intense newfound desire, and the inconvenient and problematic situations in which it demanded to be felt."

Swallow Me Whole reflects the continuous growth Lupa J has experienced as an artist, a woman, and a queer person as she delves deeper into actualising her ideal and authentic self.
