Mass Appeal Records Run The Jewels 2

Sony Music Entertainment is pleased to announce the signing of Mass Appeal Records, and one of the hottest Hip-Hop albums of the Year, Run The Jewels 2.  Mass Appeal is a media network that started out in 1996 in NY City as a graffiti fanzine, and grew to be an influential, trendsetting magazine encompassing Hip-Hop, street and skate culture.  The magazine was re-launched in 2013 by Peter Bittenbender, and soon followed the inception of Mass Appeal Records, cementing a partnership with rap icon Nas. The label will not only focus on signing and releasing music from exciting up-and-coming rappers, but it will also provide an outlet for new Nas music.  Projects from the label include 17-year-old NY Rapper Bishop Nehru, Detroit Rapper Boldy James and XXL Freshman Fashawn, while future releases include a 'Mass Appeal Compilation", and the much-anticipated new Nas album.

Earlier this year, Mass Appeal announced the signing of Run The Jewels, the super dynamic duo of EL-P and Killer Mike, two of the most distinctive and celebrated names in rap. Their sophomore album Run The Jewels 2 which has been released digitally in Australia, will be available physically on December 12th.  The album was named Triple J's 'Feature Album" this week, and was recently named the 'Hottest Hip-Hop Album of 2014" by Rolling Stone Magazine. The duo will return to Australia for headline shows alongside Joey Bada$$ in January, as well as appearances at Falls Festival in Lorne, Marion Bay and Byron Bay, and Southbound Festival in WA.

The pair released their self-titled debut album in June 2013 to incredible critical acclaim, receiving a 5/5 star review from The Guardian. They later made their first live appearance in Australia as part of the St Jerome's Laneway Festival this year along with sold out sideshows alongside Earl Sweatshirt and Danny Brown in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.

The immensely anticipated second album includes guests ranging from Zack de la Rocha to Travis Barker amongst others, but the duo maintains that the album is first and foremost about the creative partnership between the MCs themselves. The album has been consistently rated as one of 2014's best releases with a score of 90% on review aggregator Metacritic and a 9.0 on Pitchfork.
