Matt Corby No Ordinary Life

Matt Corby No Ordinary Life

Matt Corby today releases No Ordinary Life, the first offering from his forthcoming new album due for release later this year and available here.

Premiering the single on triple j breakfast, No Ordinary Life transports the listener into Corby's kaleidoscopic reimagining of the world. The slice of shimmering psychedelic splendour, taps a bold new direction by twisting a mind-bending melody, around a confronting but ultimately uplifting lyric.

The ARIA award winning musician says, "On No Ordinary Life, we were using Willy Wonka as a reference, literally, as a way to write melodies. I know that sounds a bit crazy, but that film has some strong melodic ideology. For some reason when you say Willy Wonka, it sets a mood – this magical, hyper-melodic, crooning, beautiful thing, a journey into the whimsical. We tried to make this song and a few others in that vein – as joyous as possible, which is definitely a change to what I used to do."

The first taste and the rest of the joyous new album features entirely Corby's own performances, as he plays and sings every part himself. Working once again with Dann Hume, whose credits extend to Amy Shark and the producer of Corby's debut album Telluric, Hume serves as both a sounding board and co-writer on the new release.

After the soul searching and false starts that fed the creation of Telluric, its success – both artistically and critically – finally helped Corby to feel comfortable in his own skin. That sense of well-being, coupled with the recent birth of his first child, finds him more balanced, both as a person and an artist. In embracing a more uplifting atmosphere, Corby was also conscious of the need to maintain some depth of message, and lyrically, "No Ordinary Life" evokes challenge and encouragement in equal measure.

"With 'No Ordinary Life', it is really just a reminder that even though we have all found our way to some form of monotony and formula in our general living, we are all powerful, interesting creatures that are all living completely separate experiences, all within the same relative time, and that in itself is extraordinary."

In almost a decade, Corby has built a successful touring career, selling out national tours and performing at festivals such as Splendour In The Grass and Falls and internationally at Glastonbury, Sasquatch, Open Air St Galen and Pukkelpop.

Matt Corby released his breakthrough EP Into the Flame in 2011 taking out the FBi SMAC Award, ARIA Song of the Year and 3rd spot on triple j's hottest 100 for the lead single 'Brother'.  The EP went on to claim 6 x platinum accreditation in Australia. Corby's follow up EP Resolution (2013) peaked Top 5 on the ARIA Album Chart and is now certified 2 x Platinum. Resolution garnered Corby another ARIA award with the triple-platinum title track winning ARIA Song Of The Year in 2013. It was 2016 when Corby topped the ARIA Album Charts, storming in at #1 with his highly-anticipated debut album Telluric. The critically acclaimed album is accredited GOLD in Australia.
