MCG Experience for Teenagers

The potential of hundreds of Melbourne teenagers, including the next generation of achievers and kids -at risk', was unlocked at a unique two-day event that gave teenagers a -step up' to realise their dreams. stepUP Melbourne 2010 motivated and inspired the city's young people to pursue their goals while giving them the coping and other life skills needed for success.

Teenagers spent two days meeting and interacting with the likes of former AFL star Matthew Richardson, dual Paralympic gold medallist Tim Matthews and successful musician Adam Thompson at the event, which was held at the MCG last Monday August 23 and Tuesday August 24 and was opened by Melbourne Lord Mayor Robert Doyle.

Melbourne Team Champion Paula Matlock said the reaction of teenagers showed that stepUP Melbourne 2010 had made a lasting impression on the lives of many Melbourne teenagers.
'Our focus is on inspiring teenagers to accomplish their goals through showing them living, breathing examples of people who have faced challenges and succeeded," Paula said.
'Feedback from the teenagers has shown that stepUP opened their eyes to the possibilities and gave the teenagers the motivation to follow their dreams."

Testimonials – stepUP Melbourne 2010
StepUp has been amazing in teaching me the power of the mind. I feel empowered to go out into the world and do whatever I want to do and be awesome at it. I've been going through a tough time since the black Saturday bushfires. I was heavily affected by them, but I now feel that I can do anything.
Wil, 14

I can do absolutely anything after this StepUP program. I used to be the shy girl that listened to everybody but was never heard. This program taught me to -StepUP' and be confident and know that not everyone dislikes me. The hardest thing that's been bothering me has been my body image, but Heather taught me to put on my -love glasses'.
Chelsea, 15

During StepUP I have learnt about how anything is possible. I want to make a difference and I was thinking about how if I really put my mind to it I can do anything. Thank you for teaching me about how I can make a difference in the world.
Hayley, 15

After attending StepUP I learnt there is more in life than having to impress the person next to me. I now know what is possible for my role models is possible for me, it's just a matter of how. Without StepUP I would never have realised I can achieve anything I want. I love this program; I would also highly recommend it to any student.
