Entering the 2022 matrix, Mickey Kojak reveals his new single, inspired by a scene in the classic film, Goodfellas. "Pull The Trigger" is a timely tribute to Ray Liotta and his iconic role of mobster Henry Hill in the highly revered Scorsese masterpiece. The action-packed track delivers an infectious bass line with nods to early 2000s garage rock, making it a fitting drop ahead of his Splendour In The Grass extravaganza this July.
Colourful, chaotic and catchy, "Pull The Trigger" is another banger taken from Kojak's upcoming debut album Ultra due for release this year. Following up recent tracks "Club Is On Fire" and "Lights Out", Mickey is taking his raging pop sounds to the next level.
Mickey says "I've always wanted to marry the hard, edgy sounds of early 2000's garage rock with fast- paced, high energy electronic music. This is what I set out to do with "Pull The Trigger."
Collaborating on the lyrics with Luke O'Loughlin (I Know Leopard), the high energy track is inspired by a pivotal Goodfellas scene between Henry Hill and his wife Karen, involving an entangled romance of lies and deceit.
"The song is about a fiery and dangerous relationship, where the two parties are always on the brink of destruction".
Bringing his signature synth sorcery to the stage, Mickey is launching "Pull The Trigger" at Waywards in Sydney on 11 June for a free rave-fest. He'll also be tearing it up at Splendour In The Grass this July at North Byron Parklands with his live band of misfits.
Not one to laze about, Mickey has spent recent months collaborating and putting his creative touch on others' music, most recently with Thandi Phoenix and Go Freek on "Lose You" and Chillinit's now gold single "Henny and Reefer". But now, Mickey has us staring down the barrel of this new track, the latest taste from his forthcoming album Ultra.
