Previewing what is looking to be a tasty year of new music, Melbourne-based indie rockers
MID CITY today return with brand new single:
'Choc Mint'.
The single, which is the first fans are hearing since 2020's
Wishing For The Best EP, is a striking return from the group - the final result is 3:49 minutes of spirited hooks and insatiable melody. Reinvigorated inspiration and influence worked its way into MID CITY's creative process in the months following their sophomore EP drop, with 'Choc Mint' debuting as the band's first taste of their forthcoming debut album.
'Choc Mint' acts as both a perfect introduction to the MID CITY sound, as it does a warm return for fans who have followed the group since the beginning. Brandishing a sense of catharsis and anthemic energy within their music that has seen them compared to the likes of
Gang of Youths,
The Walkmen and
Arctic Monkeys, MID CITY are well aware of the uplifting power of music. And as such, their new music has been developed specifically with the intent to bring people together and let off steam.
The band recorded their new single between
The Aviary studio, the home studios of MID CITY's
Ben Woodmason and
James Campbell, as well as the home studio of co-producer
Greg Rietwyk (Press Club). The 'Choc Mint' process saw MID CITY work with not only Rietwyk on production and mixing, but also
Matthew Gray (Violent Soho, Hope D) on final mastering.
On their new single and music, MID CITY's resolve was clear: they wanna make their fans
move.
"Our entire existence as a band is about getting people to uncross their arms at gigs. There's enough terrible stuff going on in the world without a bunch of relatively fortunate dudes in a band making people feel worse about themselves or disappearing up their collective musical butts trying to be the saviours of music as we know it. We wanna write fast songs with big choruses that make other things in your life feel less shit." MID CITY MID CITY's journey 'til this point has been marked by many accomplishments both in Australia and abroad. To date, the band has accrued over
4 million streams worldwide for their catalogue comprising of successful EPs
Die Waiting (2019) and
Wishing For The Best (2020), as well as a string of singles including
'Old Habits' (exceeding
2 million streams) and
'No Surrender' (over
950,000 streams). As a touring unit, MID CITY have won fans in Europe thanks to festival slots at the likes of
Reeperbahn Festival, and in Australia at events including
NYE On The Hill and more.
2022 will see MID CITY return to Europe for a run of headline shows and festival dates. It will be the first time the band has been able to tour extensively since the onset of the pandemic; an opportunity they are relishing. With an East Coast Australian tour slated for July, MID CITY are preparing to debut a new live show they literally have only been able to dream of.
"It goes without saying that touring again after 2 years of sitting still means everything to every band. For us, we feel time off the road has only improved the quality of our songwriting and what we will be again as a live band. We value it more than ever now and can't wait to inspire a bit of joyful chaos across the globe again." MID CITY
