MOAN

MOAN is a new project which began in Moscow in 2014. The ideologist, voice, and producer behind it is Olga Lyalina. Influenced by Lamb, Róisín Murphy, Röyksopp, Tori Amos and Maya Jane Coles, MOAN draws inspiration from electronic culture as well as UK bass and garage.

Olga's debut single went on to be remixed from Cream Soda, a DJ that has been recognized by the likes of Jimmy Edgar, XXXY, Bondax, DJ Caspa and many others.

Last year, MOAN began collaborating with drum and bass rooted producer Nuage. Real name Dmitry Kuzmin, Nuage has been recognized by XLR8R, Indie Shuffle, Drum and Bass Arena, Earmilk, Fact Magazine and more. Nuage is renowned for his emotionally charged and highly elevating music. Atop of having his praises sung by worldwide tastemakers, Nuage has also been supported by the likes of Phaeleh, Blu Mar Ten, Om Unit, Ivy Lab and DJ Flight. Together, MOAN and Nuage make for an entirely enviable collaboration.

MOAN characterizes her sound as something intimate and something overtly human. She uses her music to express true feelings. From pleasure to pain, joy to madness, her tracks have an incomparable feeling of reality. Balancing on the edge of pop and underground garage, MOAN has a penchant for minimalism and is utterly devoted to putting every part of herself into her productions. Moan aims for lightness, sound transparency, and ease of reference, showing remarkable ability to work in different stylistic situations.

Aside from her abundant sound inspirations, Olga sees influence in the work of groundbreaking designers such Alexander Wang and Maison Margiela.

Both musically and aesthetically, MOAN creates a visual force of female empowerment. The glamorous explosion of hooks and looks is a force to reckoned with.

Olga cannot be described as anything other than a powerhouse and uses MOAN to prove that house music's fire will never go out. Alison of Goldfrapp-like vocals drift atop Always Love's rhythmic masterpieces and hypnotic bass notes, tethered together with seductive tones; a communiqué to the most diverse dance floors.

Interview with Olga Lyalina

Question: To those not familiar with you, how would you describe your sound?

Olga Lyalina: The sound in which we work with MOAN is sensual electronic. A soft and smooth mix of deep and erotic with a slight touch of mysticism and rituals. This is still pop music, but we try to keep this classy mixture with the underground in it.

Question: Can you give us 4 or 5 of your main musical influences?

Olga Lyalina: Portishead – -Dummy', Massive Attack – -Mezzanine', Lamb – -Lamb', Tori Amos – -Abnormally Attracted To Sin', The Prodigy – -Music for the Jilted Generation.'

Question: Which other artists are you into at the moment and why?

Olga Lyalina: I like different music, but the music I looked into the project is: [Anders] Trentemøller, Four Tet, and Anjunadeep.

Question: What are some of the key pieces of gear you use to write your tracks?

Olga Lyalina: Dmitry (Nuage): I like a lot of reverb, deepness, air, into my work, love a lot to work with vocals – cut, circle, reverb it – because we still do not a DJ project, and the vocal project – I work with vocals very carefully, in order to make it special.

Question: If there are any well know producers, etc. you've worked with let us know.

Olga Lyalina: We are currently working on new tracks for the album and it's going to be magical! After the originals EP coming, we make a remixes EP with a producer like a Guru of electronic music - Vanilla Ace, Volac, Adri Block, Nuage.

In the summer of last year, the track MOAN Holy heartbeats ( Nuage remix) entered the collection Cafe del mar (Ibiza).
