MOFO 2019 FAUX MO

MOFO 2019 FAUX MO

Mona Foma has unveiled the program for its iconic late-night party Faux Mo. Held in Launceston for the first time, Faux Mo will take over Dicky Whites Lane for two nights"hosting exclusive international acts and world-renowned DJ sets.

Co-Directors James Brennan and Willoh S. Weiland have created a program for Mofos to revel in. "We are inspired by the wild feeling of Launceston on a Saturday night and wanted to contribute by creating a club night that would be deeply inclusive, LGBTIQ-friendly, and dance-focused. The byline, 'Small town, big dick', is an homage to local character Dicky White, who the laneway venue is named after. When paired with the nearly all-femme and non-binary line-up, and aligned with our partnerships with Tas Pride and Diversity Launceston, the byline is a statement about the futuristic nature of the event," said Willoh S. Weiland, Co-Director, Faux Mo.

Queen of Afro-Portuguese club music and darling of Lisbon's record label, Príncipe Discos, Nídia will hit Faux Mo in her very first Australian appearance. New York-based DJ and artist Shyboi (JAM/USA) comes fresh from London's Boiler Room and art parties held at MoMA PS1 and the Guggenheim.

Brisbane hip-hop legend Jesswar (FJI/AUS)"who drew recent acclaim for her single 'Savage'"will bring her boundary-pushing performance to the Faux Mo stage.

South African queer pop marvel Nakhane will resuscitate 80s Australian hits with local divas DENNI and Medhanit Barratt. In a unique collaboration, Japan's experimental powerhouse duo group A will be joined by local Tasdance heroes in a performance reminiscent of their brutal Boiler Room sets.

Fierce local drag queen Aurum Argentum performs alongside glamour girlfriends from Hobart MisTy DelRay and Pussay Poppins, glitter and rainbow pocket rocket Kat Daddi and the queen of dominatrix drag Rosa Rita.

So Fire will bring a taste of her legendary I Heart Dancehall parties to Launceston for the first time, while other Australian acts include Act Natural, here with disco-infused electronica; DJ Gemma, one of the co-founders of Club Kooky, Sydney's original queer wonderland; feminist, post-hardcore punk group Canine, and ferocious local punk heroines Slag Queens.

Other acts also include WWWater (BEL) and Les Filles de Illighadad (NER), plus a special DJ set from Neneh Cherry (SWE).

Faux Mo 2019: Friday 18 and Saturday 19 January, 10pm–late, Dicky Whites Lane, Launceston. Tickets are $39 + booking fee or $45 on the door (subject to capacity).
