Moo Brew and the Beer Diva do Fashion

Melbourne's svelte fashion set and craft beer could be seen by some as an unlikely mix.

But one stand-out event during this year's Good Beer Week in Melbourne  (a week-long celebration of craft beer) is working to change that.

Kirrily Waldhorn (aka The Beer Diva) has joined forces with Tasmania's Moo Brew and local stylist Lara Reynolds to host a fashion parade which matches the latest looks to styles of beer and music – with a soundtrack by international DJ Dameza.

The parade will feature the work of designers and stylists including Gabrielle Brown, Nevenka and Driza-Bone.

The event - Moo Brew and the Beer Diva do Fashion - will be held at chic CBD venue Madame Brussels, known for hosting tongue-in cheek events with pizazz.

'It's been my manifesto for some time now to show Australians how stylish craft beer can be – particularly when it comes to women," says Waldhorn.

'In Australia, beer is still seen as something -blokey', and not something you'd see a stylish lady indulge in."

'Wheras in Europe and south-east Asian countries, it's commonplace to see stylish women and men sporting cutting-edge looks and sipping on a high quality craft beer."

She says while the growing craft beer scene has also seen a cultural shift with more women enjoying and learning about beer, events like this are needed to create excitement among a more diverse different demographic.

Moo Brew General Manager and Head Brewer Dave Macgill says his team are excited to see how the beer styles will be interpreted.

'Our beers have a strong connection with art, with all the labels having been designed by Australian artist John Kelly."

'Each of our beers is based on a traditional style, but with a Moo Brew twist, so we are all for supporting an event based on the premise of artistic interpretation," says Macgill.

Stylist Lara Reynolds says the designers involved are all thrilled to be involved in such a unique project.

'Designers love an interpretive challenge, and to be able to work with the inspiration of craft beer styles is something so incredibly unique. We think the audience will love it."

'Think Sports Luxe meets Pale Ale, Vintage meets Imperial Stout, and Funky meets Hefeweizen."

DJ Dameza will be mixing tracks to add a further dimension to the parade's full sensory experience.

Moo Brew and the Beer Diva do Fashion will be held on Wednesday 18 May at 6.30pm at Madame Brussels.
