Melbourne's iconic Moomba Festival is back for 2019 launching on March 8 until March 11 with more food, dancing, rides and activities for the whole family than ever before.

With over 34 different rides for all ages, including kids rides, there is something for all thrill seekers.

Moomba Festival 2019: Moomba Parade

Experience the spectacularly colourful Moomba Parade on Monday 11 March from 10.45am as it weaves its way through the leafy Kings Domain parkland, starting at Birdwood Avenue and finishing at Linlithgow Avenue, near Queen Victoria Gardens. Since 1955, the Moomba Parade has captured the hearts and imaginations of Melburnians, bringing to life the vitality and energy of the beloved festival. The iconic parade, now in its 65th year, will celebrate Melbourne in all its wonder, from cultural performances to uniquely kid designed floats and everything in between.

Parade
The parade will follow the new route that was revealed in 2018, seeing the parade start at Birdwood Avenue (near the Shrine of Remembrance), venturing through the leafy Kings Domain parkland and finishing at Linlithgow Avenue, near Queen Victoria Gardens
The 2019 Moomba Parade will present a unique display of energy with 6 floats designed by Melbourne children, cultural performances, professional and amateur dance groups, and school participants
There will be 20 community groups, 2 feature dance performances, 5 bands, 3 emergency service groups and various other creative components taking part in this year's parade, including a special spaced-themed cardboard battle from Box Wars
Approx. 2000 people will participate in the parade, with 80,000 spectators lining the streets to admire the parade
This year's Moomba Monarchs, Jane Bunn and Archie Thompson, will reign over the Moomba Parade, waving to crowds from a newly revealed Moomba Monarch Float. After nearly a decade (9 years) the new float will be debuted at the Moomba Parade. Without revealing too much, the new design draws inspiration from one of Melbourne's most identifiable buildings, the Manchester Unity Building

Design a Float
In an effort to showcase our city's creative and collaborative nature, this year's Moomba Parade will again feature floats designed by children who took part in last year's Design a Float workshop
For those hoping to bring their float designs to life at the 2020 Moomba Parade, visit the Design a Float workshop space at the Design a Float space on Palm Lawn from 11am – 7 pm on Saturday – Monday.
