Melbourne's mystic psychedelic rocker Moonlover is thrilled to release his new single Queen of Sheba, in line with Capricorn's New Moon. Queen of Sheba follows last year's singles The Ooiee and Thou Shall Be Free, and is taken from his forthcoming debut album Thou Shall Be Free due out Friday March 2 through Our Golden Friend / Island Records.
Queen of Sheba builds on Moonlover's charming voice and the song's luring bass runs with playful synth layers and colorful overlays. Laden with sonic surprises, every listen brings something new to the experience, from the extraterrestrial-esque soundFX to trickling overdubs of colourful picking guitar and eastern arpeggios.
Moonlover is the moniker of Melbourne's Quang Dinh, formerly of Little Red. In tune with his occult pseudonym, Dinh releases all of his music in synergy with the Lunar Calendar. Queen of Sheba is released under the blessings of Capricorn's New Moon, with his debut album Thou Shall Be Free aligning with the Full Moon this coming March.
Thou Shall be Free is the kind of proper record that tells stories through the fantasy of surreal psychedelic songs across to the great reveal of romance. The work is a collection of reinterpreted nuances from the universe, including title track Thou Shall Be Free that was gifted to Dinh by the late, great David Bowie, who came to him in a dream. The entirety of the album was recorded, produced and performed by Moonlover in his personal oasis Pink Slime Studios, sharing impressive recording credits with John Lee (Lost Animal, Beaches, Emma Russack) who was on mixing duties, with mastering by Joe Carra (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Courtney Barnett, Eddy Current Suppression Ring).
As well as the completion of his debut album Moonlover had a stellar 2017, signing with Melbourne label Our Golden Friend / Island Records, which is also home to artists like RVG and Poppongene, touring nationally with Saskwatch on their album tour and nabbing a slot on Gizzfest in Melbourne.
